Well, the DSi got hundreds of titles, even this year new DSi titles were released. Something similar might happen for N3DS.

Highly unlikely. The reason for the large number of DSi titles that didn't work on the DS was the lack of access to an online store for the DS. When developers decided to release a digital-only game, they had no choice but to exclude the DS userbase.

Yeah, I was joking. The point is, even now the devs can do download-games for 3DS many still do DSi-titles, so it is unlikely they switch to an even smaller userbase with N3DS.
