Time to panic? For whom? And why? Sales are bad for WiiU, but what does panic achieve? NIntendo probably will try to stabilize sales and else write the WiiU off as another Gamecube or Vita. They will make money with games on 3DS and try to be successful with their Quality of Life platform.
Can MK and Smash breathe new life into the WiiU? Well, is it already dead? Is the Vita dead,that has similar sales? I don't think you would declare death for the Vita, so I assume we can agree WiiU isn't dead either. So the answer to your question is no, MK and Smash cannot breathe new life into WiiU, as it already is alive.
