I'm calling it now.

Zelda U will release (like Twilight Princess) for two Nintendo platforms ... for Wii U and also a new Nintendo portable that's capable of handling ports from the Wii U at a reduced resolution (540p for example).

So you'll be able to play it at home or on the road. Both the next Nintendo portable and Zelda U will launch in the second half of 2015.

EAD will take lessons learned from Zelda: ALBW's development (specifically pacing/non-linear design) and incorporate that into Zelda U, much like Mario 3D World combines elements from 2D Mario and 3D/Galaxy games into a 3D Mario game.

This will also let Nintendo gain at least an extra 1-2 million WW sales for the game which will help recoup development costs and maximize profit potential. Other (by 2015) older Wii U games will also be ported IMO like DKC: TF for portable play.

I believe the next Mario from EAD Tokyo (Mario Galaxy 3?) could also follow the same release pattern ... for both Nintendo Next Gen Portable + Wii U release.

There is no reason why Nintendo should release a new handheld so soon. The 3DS is running fine. If Zelda U is a hybrid-release including a handheld, this handheld will be the 3DS, like the hybrid release for MH3U or Smash Bros. But I don't really believe that for Zelda. No facts attached, it's just my opinion that Zelda U will not be a hybrid release.

Why do you think Nintendo will release a new handheld so soon? I could understand an early release of WiiUs successor, but of the 3DS?

Ninendo will probably focus on their new platform for now: Quality of Life, whatever this is.
