Someoneone forgot the PS3 launched 6 months AFTER it did in the U.S.
Therefore this whole argument is irrelevant the Wii U is doing worse than the PS3 lol.

Nope, WiiU launched better than PS3 even if you include the european launch for PS3. WiiU sells less on a weekly base now, even if you don't include europe for PS3. WiiU had 2 million 5 weeks after launch. PS3 had 687K. In the 5 weeks after european launch it made 1.1 million WORLDWIDE (not only EU). Together that makes less than 1.8 million. So WiiU launched better, even including european launch. Looking at thefirst years weekly sales WiiU is trending below PS3 even before european launch. So looking at the real numbers help avoids such wrong statements. (The conclusion that WiiU is doing worse than PS3 is true because of the second part, not because of the later european launch.)

Here is a thread with numbers: http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=152379

The PS3 sold 1.1 mil in 4months? What where are you getting your numbers? This is for 4MONTHS. We are going off of 4 months in Europe not 5 weeks.

Nope, the PS3 sold 1.1 million in the 5 weeks following the european launch. I add that to the first 5 weeks of PS3 and that number is lower than WiiUs first 5 weeks. I don't compare 4 months with 5 weeks, that's no comparison.

ahem, Sony shipped 3.5mil Ps3's in 2 quarters while JUST launching in Europe. Nintendo shiped 3mil in 1 quarter and judging from sales in NA and Japan they will ship around 500k in quarter 2. Soooo.... yeah

Can't all you guys read? What interest me the shipments for a full quarter, if I compare 5 weeks? 5 weeks PS3 after european launch + 5 weeks PS3 after launch < 5 weeks WiiU after launch.
And that doesn't mean WiiU sells bad NOW, it only means it had a better launch than PS3. PS3 sold better on a weekly base in the first year than WiiU does now. And that even without europe.

But that doesn't even make sense to compare.

You're right, it makes not much sense to compare 10 weeks of sales for PS3 with 5 weeks of sale of WiiU. But the claim I answered was that including european launch the PS3 would be on top, and no, it isn't.

It makes the most sense to compare official shipments to official statements in the same amount of quarters... if we do that we see Nintendo needing to ship 500k this quarter to match Ps3's number. However, Wii U's numbers have been lower than Ps3's so far in this quarter and it appears the shipments will be around the same amount. Then we also must consider... well shoot... ps3 only had 2 weeks of sales in Europe of 2 quarters worth of data

No, it makes no sense at this point to compare shipment data. We have only data for one quarter for WiiU and first quarter of PS3 didn't include europe. Also your last sentence: in the shipment-data you will have also the shipped consoles for sale the weeks after launch, so it should be fitting, as they will have delivered a lot to meet demand.

But also two quarters I wouldn't count as launch anymore. But the statement of KingHades  was talking about the launch. So I added the 5 week-period after european launch to the 5 week-period after launch and it was lower. What more do you need. The WiiU had higher initial sales. And yes, now it sells below. But we are past the initial sales.
