In what gen has Nintendo been more innovative?

I'm going to go with the Game & Watch series. Nintendo invented the D-Pad for Donkey Kong G&W. Without the D-Pad the NES , Master System, Genesis and SNES would have had Atari like joysticks. The Game & Watch D-Pad was a revolution that changed console gaming forever.
