Well, as you don't name the company your source work for, I assume he don't work for EA. That means, your source in a 3rd-party-dev that is probably strongly connected to Sony (based on all the info about Sony) has heard that some EA-devs have found out about the gimped dev-kits by decompiling (or getting access to source) some 1st-party-game. So even your source knows this stuff not from own experience but only as something he heard from others. Makes this info more unstable. Maybe you can be more specific: which 1st-party-game was it, that used more RAM than the dev-kits for 3rd-party offered? So far released are Nintendoland, NSMBU and Sing Party (if I'm right). Coming games are Game&Wario, WiiFitU, Pikmin 3 and more in the future Mario Kart and 3D Mario. We expect also a Zelda WW HD remake this year. Smash Bros and new zelda probably are not coming this year. So the game from this year that might be make use of the extra RAM is Pikmin - more for the status on the creatures (not only the pikmin, also the enemies) than for graphic. Everything else this year should be not pushing the usage of RAM - although every dev is happy about more of it. But it makes no sense to keep RAM from third-parties, if you use it only in games, that would work with less. So Pikmin is my guess could be the only game that was using this. Only one game have an edge over competition seems like a poor result for scaring away 3rd-party. Zelda and SSB might have use for that extra RAM, but they are at least a year away.
