It hasnt, and most likely wont unless Sony really have discontinued the PS2.

That thread has a lot regarding PS2 numbers. It outshipped the DS through Jan-Jun. At the end of June, the PS2 was sitting at ~156.1m shipped. Its likely close to 158m now, if not higher.
PS2 was at 156.1m at the end of June.
NDS was at 153.6m at the end of December.
DS is still possibly ~4.5m behind.
