| Scisca said: I didn't post these photos to whine about how Nintendo hates Poland :) I just wanted to show you how bad their distribution channels are outside of the few main European countries. I don't think Nintendo hates us, we shouldn't go to extremes so easily. Hate is a very strong emotion and they show no emotions whatsoever, they just ignore us. It is annoying and kinda hurts, but that's not what I wanted to talk about here. I think, and I hope you agree, that this does hurt their sales in Europe, since I assume other countries simmilar to Poland are treated the same way (one of the reasons we feel like "The 2nd World" ;) ). I know that treating us better wouldn't change the Wii U numbers around, but it would make them at least a bit better. I've read that in December 2011 Sony Deutschland said they sold 3 mil PS3s in Germany. Sony Polska said early this year that they sold 0.5 mil PS3s in Poland. This score isn't something breathtaking, but it also isn't bad enough to justify ignoring us the way N does. Considering PS3 is the most expensive console and almost piracy-free, this is a very good score in a country where piracy used to be common place and isn't perceived as something really bad (though it's changing). Nintendo consoles are much cheaper, so they could sell a few hundred thousands easily, just like PS3 and X360 did. The most important thing though is the pace at which the market is developing in Poland (found interesting data about it, can post if you're interested). Getting a footing in a market that is developing very fast and will no doubt grow in the nearest future is invaluable and Nintendo is sleeping through this period over here. No doubt it will hurt them next gen more than it did this gen. I think they can lose around 1 mil in HW sales due to Poland alone next gen. |
I agree about this. I was taken by the harsh words and really thought it was only about the bad representation at shops. Now it is much clearer, that this is not without reason. I don't know if Poland is too small a market for a representation (don't forget Sony sells also TV-sets, phones, computers, e-book-readers, music-players and so on, something that makes a representation more lucrative). But I agree, that this hurt sales naturally.
By the way: I can say after a look into the configuration, that it is not possible to choose polish as language at the WiiU, but it is possible to choose Poland as country. I hope that means the eShop is accessible, but I didn't try this.
