Can someone explain the whole PS3 outselling 360 in 07 thing?

Its easy,

In Jan 07, there were ~2m X360s sitting on the shelfs waiting to be sold. (Microsoft channel stuffed). Add 2m to 7.3m and you get a total max sales for the year of 9.3m

so Microsoft could have sold more than Sony which this site reflects.
