Looks like it's actually higher:

"Blizzard Entertainment's Diablo III, released on May 15, 2012, set a new industry launch record for PC games and was the #1 best-selling PC game for the first six months of 2012. Through July, more than 10 million players have entered the world of Sanctuary"

Over 10 million in 3 months?! That's insane. I wonder if the fact you can potentially make real-world cash out of the game played a part?

It's by no means a perfect game, but I look forward to Blizzards next batch of updates.

I don't think over 10million players means 10million copies sold. That could easily mean 10million player characters or include beta players, multiple players for cafe copies, etc. Either way its sad that even with pc gamers, its the mediocre games that get the ridiculous sales. Diablo 3 was a very very disappointing game.
