PSP tried with UMD.

But more important: How should the movies delivered to the 3DS? Too big for download and your SD-card would be full in not time AND movie-companies will want some form of copy-protection. Maybe cartridges. But I don't know how much memory the cartridges hold and if the data-rate is high enough to stream a movie from it. Don't be fooled by games delivering a movie-like experience: the cartridge delivers only textures and models, the visuals are rendered on the go.FMV-snippets are preloaded.

Not saying it wouldn't be cool. But I think it's at least difficult to realize.
