Not if you're playing a Wii game from the controller without the TV.

I still don't know if the sensor strip is the black strips sensor bar next to the camera or an IR port at the top side of the controller.

Q1: You can see a bottom port in the video I posted, could be also used for charging in a craddle.

Q2: iPhone inspiration? I think it's so you can rest the controller on your laps without any output cables bothering you.
