You have not actually addressed any of the arguments, you throw up two or three examples and retreat from explanations about how they are different from Pokemon. You want a full explanation? The fullest, what it really comes down to? Fine. Pokemon is intrinsically handheld as a series, at least when addressing the main series games, becuase the entire collection and battling mechanic is built around local multiplayer. The whole point of the games is to get together with your friends in the cafeteria, or the schoolyard, or your living room, and trade Pokemon or battle it out in those environs. You and your friends supplement each other's collections until you have caught 'em all, or battled 'em all, but hte point is that you get together with friends to play. Putting it on consoles does more than jsut dilute that experience, it literally destroys the original intent: Pokemon is not a game about sitting alone in one room and playing with people over the internet. That's a perversion of the original intent and we damn sure aren't going to see it this gen. Now I'm going to get more specific, just because, well, you've convinced me. Also telling me I retreted continuosly from the arguement is a lie, I see! Then I guess these: It will happen some day, and I bet this gen. It will not be as hard as you set it out to be. No I won't take that bet because I know it won't probably happen even if I believe it will. are all saying the same thing, right? It's not like you started out explicitly saying that this would definitely happen, that you bet (albeit with no on) that it owuld happen, but when someone comes forward to attach your name to the argument you back off and reveal the fact that oops, you'r not actually so confident in the firist place.
You want justification for why it's not going to happen? Money is secondary only to the original intent of the series, and not by as wide a marging as you would like to think. The DS Pokemon games tend to make as much money as they do because they encourage kids to buy more copies so they can play with their friends, and they tie up far fewer resources for far shorter increments of time than a comparable game on the consoles would take. Could they make another team for it? Sure, but why would they when they can capitalize their return on investment by focusing on the handheld titles? This logic, mind, does not hold up for many of Nitnndo's other franchises because they are not intrinsically handheld titles and do not necessarily appeal to the same demographics: not everyone who bought Phantom Hourglass bought Twilight Princess, and vice versa. This hold for Super Mario Galaxy and New Super Mario Bros., and it holds for NSMBW and NSMBDS. Animal Crossing dos much th same, though it's different in that it was supposed to be a lynchpin of an entire holiday! It's not going to happen. You originally said it would. Now you agree that it won't. You have abandoned your original stated position, and all arguments extending from that point are - you guessed it - void. |
I'm not confident that it will happen this gen, maybe it was a sentiment of desire in the first post, rather than a logically thought post, but honestly I still think it will happen someday, maybe not this gen like I posted, but it will and I'm 100% sure.
Then to your point that this franchise is being made with local multiplayer on mind, there are a lot of ways to tackle that problem. Animal Crossing City Folk was a good example. People could simply connect to your game online and meet in a special place to battle you or trade Pokemons. It could be also be done without necessarily having to appear on you friends world, just accepting an invite. But a proper solution would be a friend carrying his WiiMote or if not enough, an SD card with all his info and make the game split-screen to allow for 2 players simultaneous play and then trade and battles would be done in the same screen when agreed by both. Maybe processing power is not enough this gen, but by next gen, Nintendo's console would be able to allow for 2 players to simultaneously go on an adventure with split screen, even could allow for cooperative play.
I mean there's a lot of things that could possibly be done with the franchise that haven't even been thought about that won't hurt the Handheld games. There's a lot of potential in the series and it could become one of Nintendo's biggest games ever made. As long as it allows for free roaming and keeps the core elements from the handheld games intact, if they add more stuff and make it look nicer, I don't see what the problem is. The multiplayer aspect will be limited in a certain way, because of the portability, but then again Mario Kart Wii is the best selling game in the franchise and its primary multiplayer focus is the online one. Then the split screen is not a bad idea either.
