Japan is only 1 country.

Well i thought we were talking about regions....like how vgchartz has it. America > Europe/Others > Japan.  

But if we are talking about individual countries then yes Japan is the second largest market

"Market" is a word that is extremely fluid. It means something like 'All buyers/potential buyers with characteristic X'.

So arguing about which is the bigger market is arguing over definitions.

 

But isn't the UK bigger than Japan nowadays? Not that it matters.

In hardware, the UK is bigger, in software, Japan is bigger.
