In Japan, due to local regulations, they limit the weight it can hold to 250lb. However, since there are no regulations on "bathroom" scales in the US and Europe, the same exact hardware is rated to hold 330lbs.

 

 

 So does that mean that it is againt local regulations to weigh over 250lb in Japan?

I need a face palm smiley.... In Japan all bathroom scales have to be certified. When they had it certified, it was rated for 250lb. However, they decided later on that it should really be rated for 330lb. Since they didn't want to have to recertify the balance board, it remained at 250lb for Japan even though the hardware is identical. They probably figured the only japanese people over 250lb were sumo wrestlers, and they sure weren't going to use the thing.
