The game is tough, but typically it is the platforming that is tough.
You die instantly and have to restart if you fall in a hole, or hit any spikes. The bosses are typically pretty tough too, but once you find their weakness they only take like 10 seconds to beat.
Once you beat one stage, everything becomes a lot easier, as you get special weapons that can take out bad guys that were giving you problems.
So, if you think you'll enjoy a game were jumping from 1 block to another can be incredibly frustrating, then yes, get it.
