Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Favourite Nintendo system in terms of hardware (Not software)

The Switch if you go for functionality, versatility. For durability though, it has to be the SNES, that thing was unkillable.

I had all Nintendo consoles, gamecube was stronger and more reliable.

Also, it has the worst cross of any system ever.

Cross?

Yeah, I also really, really miss IR pointing.

At least gyro controls have become standard for shooters on Switch which is at least a big step up from analogue alone, but if there's one thing I'd love to see in Switch 2 it's some kind of more advanced and smaller IR camera that can act as a pointer without the need for a sensor bar.

I want this back so bad.  Every shooter or game with screen targeting now suffers from the lack of it.

I have been playing the de Blob games again with my wife recently on Switch.  We loved them on Wii and the squeal had a 2 player option that can point and interact with the world.  On Switch, you use an analog stick and it feels like crap in comparison. It's so bad that we almost don't even use it and it takes away from that simultaneous 2 player feature that was so much fun on Wii.

Yeah I loved it so much in games like Metroid Prime 3 and Sin & Punishment Star Successor. While I do enjoy them with gyro, the thought of playing a game like Doom 2016 with pointer aiming... *drools*

Gamecube.
Very well made and compact. Powerful and with a expansion slot to use the Gameboy player (This allow to play gameboy advance games)
The library was really great for me.

Sorry for my bad english.

The GameCube. I’ll never forget the little discs and purple cube.

Plus the GBA player was amazing. Playing Metroid fusion on TV was revolutionary to me at the time :)

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

There are two answers here...

one respective of time... the other respective of now.

the variables respective to this are innumerable.

Overall based on now... the Switch. It's great. It is the best Nintendo experience period. Literally not surpassed by anything else Nintendo has produced,

At the time and relative to that... The N64. It was a HUGE advancement. They made bad decisions. Cartridges. Actually that's it. This system was so overpowered for it's price. Remember.... it was $100 cheaper than a PlayStation!

It was good, but not as strong as a gamecube, and cartridges sometimes didn't work you had to blow inside the cartridge or system.

Technically, that never did anything unless your cartridge or system were exceptionally dusty.  That became a thing because the instructions specifically said NOT to do that because you could introduce saliva to the pins and people being people did the opposite because whatever.  The real problem was simply all the pins themselves not having adequate contact. Reinserting the cartridge itself was the fix.

But you probably knew that and was just joking and I completely ran with it.

No not at all, maybe you didn't have one, I did have one for years and even reinserting would take a few times, it was bad hardware, period. It should have worked 100% in the first cartridge insertion, and I was not the only one with the issue, most my friends had the same issue, which was not made a big deal because back then we didn't have internet to complain.

I didn't even knew the instructions said anything like that, I don't remember ever reading the instructions for any of my systems, and I've had it all. 18 home consoles and 10 portables. Never once did I even open the instructions, who needs instructions? Connect a power cable to power and the other cable to TV.

I really miss being able to use the Wii-motes IR for point and click or aiming.  That said, 3 years into it and no CoD on Switch to make use of it.

I still use the wiimote for pikmin 3, its much better, and also on Metroid prime trilogy on wiiU, Mario galaxy too.

Did you even bother to read the topic of the discussion? It has nothing to do with experience. Hardware includes

-build quality/materials (if you don't know, glass breaks so switch is out)

-specs (for its time)

-colours, design

-controller

The cross in the controller, for fighters. The cross in the switch is even worse than on the ps4.

Sorry about my English, I'm from Portugal.

I agree with you on the pointer aiming, in my opinion Nintendo should have stuck to it with wiiU, with more accurate controls, it would have been better than a second screen, it is even better the bigger the screen, using the pointer in my 100inch screen is amazing, and makes for a different experience than what I get on other consoles. Being Nintendo they could have come up with fresh ideas to use the different controls just like in Mario galaxy. As a guy who's been gaming for 30 years I always respect fresh ideas.

In fact this is why I respect Sony way more than Microsoft and Nintendo, because of VR, I was like meh, once I bought it, I was like wow, that changes everything. For a time I couldn't even care for 2d games anymore, even tough I play on 100inch, the VR is still more immersive and that's what I want companies to do, to bring new ways to play, because in 30 years I've grown a bit bored of traditional gaming.

Your English is excellent, and there's no need to apologize for speaking a second language. :)
