Forums - Sales Discussion - PS3 record launch in France - 78,000 in two days!

kber81 said: Louie said: And Sony also said it they sold 600k consoles in europe the first to days... Remember Nintendo saying they sold 600k Wii in the US and they just sold 400k? Don´t believe ANY gaming company if it comes down to hardware sales. Let´s wait for some "real" numbers and don´t take Sony´s... maybe they shipped 78k to france... you know what I mean? Don't cry EDIT: I suppose this "real" numbers should be much lower to satisfy you
Was this really necessary? I just didn´t want to believe in Sony cause Nintendo and Microsoft had some upped numbers on their launches too. Now I read the figures in the other thread and yeah - I´m pleased. Not because PS3 sold bad in any way but because the numbers IOI gave us are vgcharts numbers. And i believe in them but not in Sony´s

Some people here are a bit nuts .After their logic if a console doesnt sell out then it mudy be because each one interested has already one .After that logic once we saw X360 or Wiis in the shelves (and believe me ,there are many of those out there ) then we should assume everyone interested has one already isnt it ? .After that twisted logic no one should be buying more consoles next month for any of those consoles wich arent in rupture of stock . You can play all the rethoric games you want ,but you will see with your own eyes how the PS3 beats the X360 soundly both in Japan and in Europe .

I think you misunderstand many people's comments ... We don't have exact numbers, but in every region there is a certain group of people (early adopters) who are willing to pay practically anything in order to be the first person with a gizmo, gadget or do-hickey. As a guestimate, I would say that there is (roughly) 500,000 to 5,000,000 people who will buy a videogame system simply because it is brand new. Now with the PS3 not selling out we can assume that most of these early adopters who wanted a PS3 got one; we don't know whether it is an amazing number or not because so few major console releases have not sold out.

a very good article on ps3 launch (but in french and i don't have time to translate it), where they called tons of stores or franchises to know how it went. http://www.overgame.com/items/20184_enquete-ps3-le-tour-de-france.html in short, it went ok, but no sold out anywhere and no passion. lots of sellers wondering about the next months

@ Louie Sorry, I couldn't resist. No offense. I just don't like when people denies all good news regards Sony. This is a success. First in quite long time. For me it means only one thing - good start and a chance for a good sale in the future. Will PS3 bomb? Maybe, but not right now. Good start nothing more nothing less. We will see.

Thanks Benoit! I'm officially confirming my prediction that the PS3 did not sell out in Europe!

@ gebx I thought that Xbox360 users don't have inferiority complex. Author of this level of cubetoons was wrong. Xbox360 fanboy - myth A lots of complex here.

All I am getting out of this is that people expect the PS3 to sell out. This $600 dollar system breaks records but that is not good enough. Everyone who wants one should have purchased one now.... I see the logic that is trying to put across. If the PS3 is held to those standards because of the PS2' success. That 100 million base should keep the PS3 sold out right? Well, why not hold that to the 360 as well? Using that logic the 360 should not be on shelves right? This standard put up by everyone is a little silly. Seriously the PS3 is selling, not as well as the Wii but that can easily be explained by the price. Does it matter or does it not matter? Is the PS3 doomed?

There is always a clear winner. Even if one fails, I'm sure another company will enter the race because of the chasm left by the loser. Google, Dell, Apple, HP or even EA all have the resources to launch their own hardware. Sega bowing out and Microsoft stepping in is a recent example.
Thank you, ranzchic. It's the egalitarian approach, the Na-Na-Na-Gonna-Have-A-Good-Time-from-Fat-Albert kind of mindset that makes everyone feel warm and fuzzy but it never turns out that way. The ONLY time and I mean the ONLY time when competition was EVER close in the console contest was in the 4th generation between Sega Genesis & Super Nintendo. Nintendo coming off of the momentum of the NES and Sega jumpstarting new momentum through their earlier 4th gen start & strategic marketing (Nintendon't). THAT'S why it was close. And it was only close in certain regions not worldwide. I love this "All 3 will win" attitude. It sounds nice. It feels nice. And everybody has their representation in the marketplace. The customers have the candy store to themselves. But it just doesn't work out that way. Wii owns this 7th generation & the #2 worldwide spot is dependent on what XBox 360 does to derail Sony's PS3. Since XBox 360 means nothing in Japan they have to count on the other markets to push Sony out of the fight. Europe seems to be PS3 friendly so far so we'll just have to see how the two companies work out. Europe is the only territory that is debateable at this point. John Lucas

Of course the sales are high right now it's the novelty of the week. It's in vogue. Just give it a few weeks before people realize it's gimmicky.
