Forums - Sales Discussion - PS3 record launch in France - 78,000 in two days!

staticneuron said: All I am getting out of this is that people expect the PS3 to sell out. This $600 dollar system breaks records but that is not good enough. Everyone who wants one should have purchased one now.... I see the logic that is trying to put across. If the PS3 is held to those standards because of the PS2' success. That 100 million base should keep the PS3 sold out right? Well, why not hold that to the 360 as well? Using that logic the 360 should not be on shelves right? This standard put up by everyone is a little silly. Seriously the PS3 is selling, not as well as the Wii but that can easily be explained by the price. Does it matter or does it not matter? Is the PS3 doomed?
How do you expect these guys to understand you if "I" dont even understand you? Where are your EXCLAMATION points??!!!?!?!

Very encouraging news, especially considering early reports to the contrary!

Naughty Dog: "At Naughty Dog, we're pretty sure we should be able to see leaps between games on the PS3 that are even bigger than they were on the PS2."

PS3 vs 360 sales

Arguing over the Euro launch is pointless since obviously a launch does not a system make, or else the GameCube (730k in 12 days) would have done a lot better then it ended up doing. Sony fanboys can be proud if they want, their system had a record launch in Europe . Now that the early adopters/fanboys are out of the way we will see if the PS3 can outsell the Wii and Xbox360 on a sustained basis. We know the answer to that question in America and Japan is a resounding no thus far but Europe is Sony land so it will inevitably perform better there. Have a beer Sony fanboys, I'd say don't enjoy Sony's success too much but I remember the GameCube launch was one of the only good times for a Nintendo fanboy so I suppose you should enjoy it as much as you possibly can. Given what's happening elsewhere in the world there won't be too many opportunities for it in the future.

lol its xbots and fad boys like you that better enjoy this time, 360 had not been doing all that great and the fad will die soon enouth. Sony did not dominate two gens by luck.

When the PS3 can manage to sell after the initial launch (GC and N64 did well then also) you'll have more room to boast . Look at the latest numbers from Japan, down 11% again while the "Fad" continues to power on. You're right Sony didn't dominate by luck, it dominated for reasosns that are no longer in play: mass market price, Nintendo screw ups, Sega screw ups, mass and exclusive 3rd party support, leading a meaningful (for most people) format change, etc. Anything can happen but reality is that each passing month after their launches sees the "Fad" building its lead and the PS3 continuing to languish. You can hate it all you want but that's just the way it is right now.

You got that right! They dominated two gens by having a year head start on the competition, (except for the Saturn, but then again, the PS1 was a hundred dollars cheaper than the overpriced Saturn) And yes, it was a jolly good launch.

I'm a mod, come to me if there's mod'n to do.
