Eco-Box: a greener way to protect games

If you've bought a new 360 game recently, you may have already noticed this curiously Trivial Pursuit-inspired packaging being employed for titles like Left 4 Dead 2 and Modern Warfare 2. According to the Viva Group, the company that designed the packaging, the new "Eco-Box" is not only better for the environment (using 20 percent less plastic and creating 31 percent less CO2 emissions) but has "no real difference in quality or performance" when compared with standard packaging.

We, on the other hand, worry that the cheaper, flimsier feel of the cases (which will come to the Wii and possibly PS3) will turn people off. After all, If we have to choose between our grandkids drowning in a melted glacier someday or holding sturdy game packaging right now, we're going to go with the packaging every single time.

I noticed this when I got MW2 and thought it was just some special packaging for that game.

Is this just an Activision thing (since it's MW2, L4D2, and DJ Hero I believe) or all 360 game cases going to do this?

Wait, there are holes in the box? So you could actually have nothing but the cover between your fingers and the disc?

I suppose gaming could take this one for the environment (not the CO2 emissions, but I'm all for using less oil on creating plastic)

One word to describe that.

"EWW!"

I also doubt PS3 cases will see this. They are small enough already...

I was wondering why Left 4 Dead 2 game in such a weird case. Did I accidentally help the environment? If so, where's my cookie?

No, you just destroyed the environment less than you would have done otherwise. That does not earn you cookies

I think they're all going to be made like this. I could be wrong though.

I noticed this with my MW2 case also. These new cases are way too flimsy and light-weighted.

Yeah, I saw that and thought it was a pretty petty effort.

I want to know this too. That is what it looks like from the screen shot.

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy
