Forums - Gaming Discussion - Anyone else feel Uncharted 2 borrows far too much from the DKC franchise?

the exploding barrels from the river in uncharted 1?

You won't believe this, but I was thinking this just a few days ago. And my thoughts put U2 and DKC in a negative light. See, in 1994, DKC was easily the prettiest game on the market. I thoroughly enjoyed it and thought it was amazing. However, in the years that followed, I realised that DKC1 was actually pretty basic, as far as platformers go. It's graphics were what made it great. DKC2 and DKC3 were much better, though.

And Uncharted 2.....I couldn't get enough of this game. The awesome graphics, amazing story presentation, and cinematography are second to none.....but like UC1, I'm having an extremely hard time enjoying that second playthrough. Is this another case of awesome graphics carrying a game with decent gameplay?

I beat Tomb Raider Underworld 3 times through, at least. I bought Tomb Raider Legend for three separate platforms. I beat Gears of War 1 & 2 multiple times, each. I beat every MGS 4-5 times, at least. (so, I like exploration, third person shooters, and stealth). Uncharted 1 and 2 (while both are MUST PLAY games) are having a tough time getting me motivated. Maybe I need to try the online mode.

this is BS. Are you serious! Did UC2 steal all its enemies, storytelling, guns and all the action-packed playable scenes from DKC too? O and I remember Chloe and Elena from DKC also (sarcasm)

No. Though you hit the nail on the head with the action packed scenes. For it's time, DKC was known for it's visceral, non stop action/platform sequences. I think UC2 does this incredibly well too. There are also the platforming elements that share many similarities. Collecting treasures/bananas, jumping, climbing, barrels, side kicks, the level design is quite similar as well. Jungles, caves, ice levels, etc. Now this holds true for most platform games, but I think the similarities in how UC2 creates these grab-you-by-the-ball action action sequences is very similar to that of DKC games (not dk64). The graphic style (coloring, shading, background design) are also heavily borrowed and adapted to a 3d environment. The music at times even calls for some deja vu. It's moe than just the sum of its parts. Play some UC2 and DKC back to back and you'll be surprised how similar the experiences are.

See even he agrees MGS4 is the best game ever!

Wooop, finally something I can comment on! (No, I haven't played a DKC game)

I still had great fun with my second playthrough of Uncharted 2 (on hard). I watched all the cutscenes again, and still held me tight. I did however mix up my SP time with some MP time, as I found that this is actually one of the rare games with a MP that I really like. I don't think I'm particularly good or anything, but I'm having great fun online (most of the time anyway )

I'm on my third playthrough currently (on crushing), and the game is still good, but it certainly isn't as captivating as it was the first time around.

I can recommend getting into the multiplayer (and I have barely touched the coop, lol). Give me your PSN if you want to play

haha that was good
not often do we get many joke threads like this! lol

When I read the title I thought: Really, someone is comparing Donkey kon Country with Uncharted?! Nah, can't be. DKC must be another game I don't know yet. I then read it, and you are dead seriously considering the two similair?

Untill I see Nathan riding a rhino, I will not consider this game comparable.

I would like to add that DKC currently still has only one thing above Uncharted: Music! Anyone for Stickerbrush Symphony or jungle Japes?
