I wonder how death of PS2 will affect on PSP sale. I think PSP will finally get rid off the status of PS2 re-maker. Maybe it will help to stop DS at least outside Japan. New metal gear, FF maybe even Dragon Quest... who knows.

I didn't say that the DS is dying now, but if Nintendo shifts resources away from it, then it the vine has to wither... Question: isn't the DS Nintendo's biggest portable? Exactly how is Nintendo "edging away from the portable business"? Nintendo constantly supports the DS, and when that dies down, they'll come out with a new portable to be sure.

Nintendo has issued a press release stating that it will shift resources to the Wii, from its other projects, which implies its handhelds.

Exactly, and it does mean that, b/c these aren't the wii if their logic isn't wacko from translated engrish. So, nintendo thinks that it's wii is more profitable to market than its handhelds, which surprises me, actually. I would have thought that it's dominance in the handheld market would be surer than its dominance in the console market but what do I know?

Maybe they anticipated the demand for the DS and were able to plan ahead and staff accordingly. Whereas the Wii's success may have exceeded their initial projections thus might require additional resources quickly.

If that does mean they're shifting resources from the DS to the Wii...more power to them...the Wii could use help right now...many people think it needs more help, and I agree. The DS has a well established user base and developer base, and Nintendo can still pump out a few DS games while they focus on the Wii. Pulling resources away from the DS does not mean they're "leaving the handheld market"...that's just stupid. For one company to uphold a console and handheld at the same time is admirable. For one company to make excellent games for both the console and the handheld is amazing. For both that console and that handheld to be doing the best in the current videogame market is even more amazing, and that's what Nintendo does...excuse the fanboyism but it's true.

Well, it obviously means that either that they will it the DS collapse (however slowly) or move it to a budget-cheapo game kind of format. Remember the original game boy? Perhaps the move is going in that kind of direction, but I don't know that for sure.
