Forums - Gaming Discussion - What should I get, PS3 or 360? (From a Wii owner)

IMO, I'd get a Xbox 360 when the holiday bundles come out, but that's me.

Merely because you'll be getting the best value (will AUS get a bundle, anyways?). But it comes down to what system has the must-have games for you.

The RROD problems are almost entirely fixed - Falcons are out, and are in the majority of the units (plus HDMI, plus 2nd heatsink), so that shouldn't be a major concern anymore.

So IMO, if you like the Xbox 360 games, save yourself the extra cash, get the Xbox 360 and a few extra games. Atleast to me, it's a no-brainer: for the price of a PS3, you could get a Xbox 360 + about 3-5 top-tier games.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

As a guaranteed future Wii owner (I'm still holding out), I honestly don't see myself getting either of the other systems anytime in the near future.

The 360 doesn't have any big games that are must have for me (I don't really care for FPSes) and I refuse to pick one up until they get the smaller, cooler chips into case. While it's nice that MS is offering a 3 year warranty, I really don't want a system that requires it. And the $50 price cut after a year and a half on the market was lame. Let me know when you really drop the price, MS. So why consider a 360 at all? There are some Live Arcade games that I'd really like. So unless someone ports them over to the PC or Wii, I'll continue to want the system for them.

And the PS3... where do I start? I don't have an HDTV and don't care to pay extra money for Blu-ray discs. And like the 360, there aren't any games that I'm really interested in besides a few PSN exclusive titles. But instead of improving the value of the system this year, Sony has gone and actually made it worse! It took them a whole year to drop the price by $100, but the only way they could do it was by completely removing backwards compatibility and some other minor features. With a PS2 costing around $100, that's a sad trade off. In fact, I'll just stick with my PS2 again this year since the games are cheaper and more engaging than anything on the PS3.

So in the end, I'd say none of the above. But if you must have one, you'd probably be better off with the 360.

Numbers are like people. Torture them enough and you can get them to say anything you want.

I'd follow Mr. Stickballs advice on this one. I'd wait for the Forza 2 and Marvel Ultimate Alliance bundle and pick up a 360. I own three Japanese RPGs on my 360 right now with many more coming in the next year. Unless FFXIII is the end all be all to your RPG experience the 360 has the best JRPG selection of the three next gen consoles. Ironic considering the 360 is from an American company and the PS3/Wii are produced by Japanese companies.

The PS3 isn't going to fail, at least not in Europe and Japan.
I wouldn't bet my money on that. From what the sales look like, not to mention overall public hearsay, it really does seem that the PS3 is liked about as much as the gamecube was in it's time. And that is not good to say the least. Of course the PS3 does have titles that will move systems in Japan, but it won't be anywhere near the ps2 numbers. Hell, if it sells 20 million over there, it should be considered a brilliant success. But that's just my opinion.

Wii60 or whatever... The Xbox 360 costs less, has more games, and many older games that are now easy to pick up for below full retail price. Since most of the games that will be in the PS3 will also be in the 360 and many games are actually better on the 360, maybe get that? I'd wait till the new SKU comes out, though.

If you can wait till late 2008, the PS3 will have had another price drop, may have better games, and it will be easier to judge where the future of DVDs is goining. I plan to wait till 2009 or so. If BR really looks like the future of DVDs, I'll opt for a PS3, otherwise, I already get enough fun out of the Wii games.

I'd get an xbox30 out of the two, but that's just ecause none of the PS3's present or future games interest me. The easiest solution is to look at the lists of games for each platform, and pick the ones that you think are good. Whichever console has the biggest list, you buy.

after all, games are what makes a system.

Help! I'm stuck in a forum signature!

I completely agree. I am a Wii owner and if I were to get an HD console now it would be the 360.

If you are getting a system this year get the 360. You have a price drop, a bundle with free games, hdmi, and the improved heatsink. As a bonus is this year is anything like last stores like Best Buy will offer a free gamw or two with the 360 during the holidays.

Even if someone was dead set on a PS3 I would say they should be in no hurry to get one. Maybe when the majors come out next year, another price drop hits, Blu-Ray becomes more established, and a bundle is available.

Final* Word on Game Delays:

The game will not be any better or include more content then planned. Any commnets that say so are just PR hogwash to make you feel better for having to wait.

Delays are due to lack of proper resources, skill, or adequate planning by the developer.

Do be thankful that they have enough respect for you to delay the game and maintain its intended level of quality.

*naznatips is exempt

I've never owned a ps3 but I had a 360 before I sold it and my children still have theirs.
There seems to be nothing between the PS3 and 360 when it comes to games but the 360 has the well established LIVE service and I did enjoy playing the live arcade games to see how far I could get up the rankings table.

And surely you cannot resist being a Wii60 owner!!!

PS3, console and games will last longer and has BR
