Forums - Sony Discussion - A 50$ price-cut just isn't enough

Christmas will give a boost.
Slimline will bring attention back to the system, and also will confirm Sony will finally be making a profit. This will bring advertising from Sony, finally.
A $50/(whatever currency) pricecut would bring more advertisement from retailers.
Gran Turismo is the biggest system seller Sony have, a $50 cut with a Slim at Christmas, along with one of the worlds biggest franchises, would be enough.

Also, almost 23 million people have seen fit to "waste" $400 on a games system. What makes you think they wont want one for $350?

eh, those consumers already have one, i don't think they will all be buying a second ps3.

OT: even if they would make a miniature Ps3, a 50 dollar pricecut won't help. People will always be comparing it to the 360, and Blu-ray standalones are already cheaper and will be getting cheaper.

leo said that nobody would waste $350 on a games console, i said that 23million people already "wasted" $400+. What i meant was, if so many people wanted one for the $400 price, why wouldn't they want one for $50 cheaper.

$300 for fat, $350 for slim is possible, but I just think $300 + GT 5 would be fantastic for Sony

I think the next price-cut will be $100, especially if Sony has managed to cut manufacturing costs by 70%. Strategically, a $50 cut may be better. MS may not respond to a $50 cut, they will definitely drop the price of the 360 PRO if Sony drops the PS3 a $100. IMO, a $50 price-cut will pull the PS3 even with MS; whereas, a $100 cut will have Sony pull well ahead.

Thanks for the input, Jeff.

It depends on whether they want to make money or move consoles...

If they want money, they can just hope for games like GT and FF in Japan to move consoles, profiting on less consoles sold...

OR

They could sell a ton of PS3 with a huge price cut and hope then hope that they can make money by selling software.

Also, a NEW model with even a $50 price cut should move a lot of consoles. People like new things don't they?

Well 360 sales went though the roof when it hit $200. So $350 might not have the impact people hope. Definitely not the impact $300 would have.

it has to be a 100.00 cut to make any difference at all, and that's if the slim is even real or not, Sony is just digging the hole for themselves bigger.

what the heck, how am I in this thread

More importantly, why would you say the PS3 is a "waste" of money.

PS3 + Pricecut + Slim + Holiday Season + Final Fantasy XIII = Surge in Japan!

PS3 + Pricecut + Slim + Holiday Season + Grand Turismo 5 = Sales surge everywhere else

Not counting the amount of people who would just buy it because it is a little cheaper.

A lot of people are talking about Japan, but i don't think Japan only will do the trick. The markets in America and Europe are much bigger. Thus more important.
