Forums - Sony Discussion - Is story one of the strong points in Valkyria Chronicles?

I don't have a PS3, and I probably won't anytime soon, but seeing as how Valkyria Chronicles has gotten an anime series, I'm thinking of checking that out. Thing is, unless story is one of the main draws of Valkyria Chronicles I don't know if it'll be worth it. I mean, if the gameplay is what makes Valkyria Chronicles great, I don't think I'd get much out of watching a series based on it.

So, to anyone who's played it, is the story engaging enough for you to recommend that I check the anime out?

It's the story, the charm, and the presentation. Virtually unmatched by any current gem game.

the story is one of the big draws of VC, but I don't think the anime really matches the game storywise. They took some liberties that I think made the overall story worse.

Well that sucks :x What kind of liberties?

I'm kinda enjoying the anime... of course it's not a 1:1 adaption of the game, but I think it's still rather close to the original, and it's fun to watch... so yeah, I can recommend it.

I Thought The Story In VC Was Pretty Weak. It's So Predictable And Takes A Long While To Get Interesting.

The story is very good, certainly better than most games out there. But without the gameplay, the story would be less meaningful IMO. I haven't watched the anime though, so I can't give you any advice on that.

Well, the story is one of the draws of the game, but I'd say it's the gameplay that makes it better.

I would encourage to play the game before you watch the anime though. It's not as good, but I'm still enjoying the anime.

Does gameplay really enchance the story that much?  I haven't played that much of the game and unfortunately, don't have the game right now.

Well, by using the different characters in battle, you become attached to the certain characters you like. It enhances the emotional effect of certain scenes. (Chapter 11 )
