Forums - Sales Discussion - UK GfK Chart-Track Hardware Installed Bases through June 27

After seeing the latest UK top 40, these numbers seem a little less improbable. Both PS3 and 360 have more games in the top 40 and the Wii version of Tiger Woods (with MotionPlus) debuted several places lower than the other console versions.

I specifically asked Chart Track if the 360, Wii and DS figures reported by GamesIndustry.biz were correct:

loool there is going to be a lot of meltdown among the Nintendo fans and I wouldn't miss it

just to recap 360 2:1 Wii and Wii 1:1 PS3

just unreal

The numbers are heavily rounded, Lombard explained it earlier in the thread.

yeah Wii probably outsold the PS3 in the range of 50k but still very small amount in 5 months period.

So: it is adjustments-time!

even with roundings... the Xbox360 sold at least 550,000 units and the Wii 349,999 units. Thats still quite a gap. But ioi told us that those numbers were wrong?

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

Same error as a lot of body.

360 sold at least 501,000 and the wii 399000 at maximum (between februrary and june).

LTD number have the precision +/-50k, yes, but number for a period have the precision +/-100k. Except for the DSI because, it's really between 251,000 and 349,000.

If Wii sold 399000 wouldn't it round up to 400k?

After this, it is very hard to believe the site's numbers, especially the European numbers are credible.

Even worse, he's also suggesting 501k would  round up to 600k.

@lombard

those are still massively different to what vgc has arent they?..

VGC, it's ioi, it's not me. Only ioi can speak about the number of vgc.

I don't know the number of vgc in the begin of the year, but if they are not in correlation with the real number of chart-track in the begin of the year, which is not easy to know because we have the same problem of precision with all the number of chart track, it can explain with the number of end june too, a part of the problem you certainly want to speak.

To resume, if the number of vgc in the begin of the year are already not the same of chart track in the begin of the year, it's normal that it's not the case at the end of june, even if the number of vgc between january and june are not so different with the number given by chart track.

Example:

I take the wii. Imagine, that the chart track number for the wii in the begin of 2009 is 4,86m and the number at the end of june 5,44m. So for chart track, the number for the wii in the begin of the year (january to june) is 580,000.

I don't know the number of vgc, but if it's 700,000 for the begin of the year, if they have 4,94m in the begin of 2009, they obtain 5,64m at the end of june.

So, for you, you can see a difference of 200,000 in LTD at the end of june for vgc and chart track, but for the period there is only a difference of 120,000.

So we must see all the number with precision before say vgc is not in correlation with chart track.

And as i said before, it's only ioi which can say if his number are good or not.

I am math teacher, so i can explain you (i take the wii):

if februray number is rounded to 5,1m, it can be 5,050,500 in reality

If june number is rounded to 5,4m , it can be 5,449,500 in reality

So between february and june, it can really be 399,000.

End of the proof.

@kowenicki

Ok, adjustment, but 400k off is very big. If Chart-Track would released numbers numbers at the years end we would see 700-800k off on 360?
After that we would only say "Adjustments time".
