If they want to sell this, they need to pull of deals with the retailers to get a demo of the game (like how Guitar Hero is demoed) in a visible place, with Eyetoys on the side for immediate grabs, and the eye pet ready to be played with.
Casual games with potential mass appeal like these need to be shoved in the face, as the casuals don't go out to look for news and games, but grab whatever's on the news, popular, and on impulse.
Edit: Bundling the game with Eyetoys might be a great idea too.

Heavy Heavy advertising on appropriate channels would also work wonders, but Sony can't afford it atm unfortunately

Yeah, I forgot to mention advertising as part of "shoving in face". And yeah, they can't afford TV ads. I don't know if I'm being extremely naive (about how Sony can get a deal with retailers) but I can really see the Eyepet selling if they get the retailers to do what I said. Imagine if every little kid rushed over to a big screen tv and started playing with the Eyepet (maybe even fighting over control of it), while the parents look around for Big Screen TVs, Computers, etc. And then the kids whined for the parents to buy the game, or the parents thought that it'll ba great buy for the Holidays. Baisicly like how Guitar Hero instantly spun heads.
They should rely on heavy internet advertising.
