Forums - Sales Discussion - FORZA 3 is meant to be the GRAN TURISMO KILLER!

True racing simulation lovers can only feel thrilled having two huge franchises available instead of one.

I sense a lot of people here aren't as much racing simulations as they are PS3 fanatics.

Not many xbox owner will pay much attention to a racing game, Forza 3 or whatever when there are games MUCH MORE APPEALING to the same base released that season such as MODERN WARFARE 2 and HALO ODST. Forza is not that big of a franchise on the 360. If bundled for X-mas sales will be a different story , though. But the 360 fanbase is looking at Halo and MW2 first and foremost. And Assassin's Creed 2 will be bigger than Forza 3 also.

Especially considering that 360's majority of SW sales come from NA where racing isn't that big.

I thought NASCAR was pretty big in the US? I know many many people who are into it. (Yeah I know it is anectodal but damn those stands look really filled during races)

That alone should help GT5 in the US.

PS3 has a very small install base. Projected lifetime sales is just 50 million consoles, compared to 130 million PS2s.

This will severely hurt Gran Turismo. GT4 sold 9.7 million. The small PS3 install base and competition from Forza 3 will probably shrink the GT5 sales to 5-6 million lifetime.

Forza 2 sold 4 million, Forza 3 will sell 5 million easily because it's a better game and the X360 is much more popular now than in 2007.

Will you please stop failing.

GT3 also sold around 10 mill (probably more .. ) on around a 14 million ps2 user base :p

I was talking about Forza though. MW2 and a Halo game is going up against Forza this holiday season and they will smother Forza in NA... The Japanese will eat up GT:P... so that leaves Europe to get most of Forzas sales.

I know you were talking about Forza, but I guess I took the "NA where racing isn't the big" as meaning that racing in general is not big in the US.

Made me think you were saying that neither game will sell very well in the US.

My bad.

I think Forza 3 will outsell GT5 if:

-MS puts alot of advertising this holiday to really promote this game as the "definitive racer"

-GT5 doesnt release until Spring or Fall 2010 (most likely)

-Forza 3 will be patched/upgraded to be playable with Project Natal on launch next fall (ala Burnout Paradise technical demo but with more refined controls)

I think people would have laughed last gen if you told them the next Mario Kart would hit 20 million while the next gen Gran Turismo would be lucky to hit 10 million... so anything is possible

First of all, it would be an insult to Forza (or GT), both racing simulators to steer by means of something like Natal.  I could understand the idea of looking slightly to the side to check blind spots, but an "air"steering wheel in a driving simulator?  No thanks.

Second, I love Mario Kart.  I also love Gran Turismo.  Those two games should never be mentioned in the same sentence.

Too bad its victim is not in the vicinity :P GT5 is coming later, and it will be the hunter, not the hunted.

By the time GT5 comes out Forza 4 will be in the works. The only reason I want to play GT5 is to play a 16 car race online with real people. I think that's suppose to be one of the features for GT5. I hope GT5 cars can flip over now. How can you have a car crash and never flip over?

@RPG

yes we ALL know that......but in their mind Forza 3 needs to be a GT Killer

Its the perfect next step for Xbox 360 domination, take playstation last remaining strong exclusive franchise.

the way Turn 10 are saying things like "GT dropped the ball.....forza's picking it up" only leads me to believe it is going to be positioned as a GT Killer.

And expect Halo level marketing in Europe

Probably. I've always liked Forza better because of what it offered. GT 5 may look better, but if all we get is the same style of play that was in GT3 & GT4, they can forget it. GT just started betting boring after playing it for about 50hrs. The crashes were never exciting and watching the A.I. drivers rubberband all over the track just made the game very unrealistic to me.

I don't think it's a killer as much as it is a competitor.

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

Forza 2 launched lower than prologue... GT5 will hit 2m launch week. Forza 3 wont get past 600k first week.
