Forums - PC Discussion - Problems with Parents' Computer's internet.

Okay, so my parents can't connect to the internet through internet explorer, opera or firefox, but they can connect using AOL (which somehow seems to bypass the problem).

My suspision is that a component or software is corrupt or missing in Windows Vista itself. When I went to diagnose the problem with the internet connection through windows it said it could not communicate with the DNS server (67.138.54.100). If I'm not mistaken that looks to be their old IP Adress before they reformatted the Computer and got a new wireless router. not sure if that's the problem though.

Now their computer is set up through a modem that goes through a wireless router that then feeds directly into thier computer, if that helps, but I'm limited in what I can do to help them.

So... Any ideas or suggestions?

Maybe AOL did it.... Wouldn't put it past them.

Sounds pretty weird that they can't connect through web browsers but can through AOL. Sorry I am not the best with computers anymore but I am sure someone can figure something out. It would probably be easier to solve if nothing worked at all.  Can the other computers that are connected to the router connect through web browsers?

Can it connect using IE if you connect the computer directly to the modem?

what I would do is open a command prompt, usually by typing 'cmd' (no quotes) at the bottom of the start menu. Type the following and press enter after each one (once again, do not type in the quotes)

"ipconfig /all"
"ping www.yahoo.com"
"ping 4.2.2.4"

copy and past everything into a post here.

Those instructions make no sense dude.

@onimusha

he means to say:

1. left click on start button

2. left click on "run" tab

3. type "cmd" (no quotes)

4. click "OK"

5. follow rest of what he says:  Type the following and press enter after each one (once again, do not type in the quotes)

"ipconfig /all"
"ping www.yahoo.com"
"ping 4.2.2.4"

copy and past everything into a post here.

I have to save my reputation here.

He says that he is using windows Vista in his first post.  Therefore my instructions apply.
