Also - because the ENTIRE game is in B&W (& red...) enemies struggle to stand out - nor can you easily differentiate which are which. In the end, it didn't matter too much - I treated most of them equally.

Not exactly, theres another colour but you will need to play through it to find what it is.

There is yellow as well for HUD/markers (and thank god for that!).

They did have a marker on the minimap, the marker would even change color if you were on the same level of the map as the item in question

Map navigation did get troublesome in some maps (notably Chinatown and that Area 66), but generally it wasn't that bad.

I don't remember having this "explained" to me - apart from knowing that enemies appear on the minimap.

On the train level, I died twice trying to get to a "star" on the minimap - only to be hit by a train. Then I realised its *above* me, but the minimap wasn't showing me this at all.

Some of those things are why I haven't bought it...(nor played, can't rent here) the shortness being a major downer.

I have heard it is similar in some ways to No More Heroes, which would be a good thing if it weren't so short.

I *loved* Killer7 - because of its wierdness. But there isn't so much wierd about this - its more SinCity, and just all about blood/death/style.

TBH, the length of the game is the least of its concerns. Its fairly repetitive (with some unique content/'games' in each area) - they could have dragged it out to 20hrs, but there just isn't a need.

Its more the style of the game. In some ways its a slow-Ninja Gaiden - but NG is about "survival", and getting through the levels. This gives you a small level, heaps of easy enemies - and its all about killing in creative ways, to maximise bonus/points within a limited time.

...

NMH is an interesting one. I love it and hate it at the same time: its exceptionally cool, yet not that *fun* to play. Its almost the opposite of this - where I'm not particularly enjoying the story or the coolness, rather its the "fun" of the game that keeps you going (i.e. in NHM you get through the boring bits for the cool story/bosses, in MW you get through the story/bosses to get back to creative killing).

A fusion of the two could be cool: take NMH, and give it some of the core gameplay elements of MadWorld (open world brawler). Sure be more interesting than riding around an almost-empty city getting lost...

@Samuel.

Yes, they are increasing thier shelf space... but only for full price buying, not renting.

Back when I rented a couple of N64 games (10 years ago!) games had 1 set of shelves (approx 1m X 2m) which would be half PS1, 1/4 GameBoy and 1/4 N64 (2-3 shelves) plus an ex-rental bin which was 98% PS1 (being discs they don't last as well with multiple careless renters)

About 5 years ago the GC had a whole set of shelves (1m X 2m) to itself, 1/4 being for buying new games.... XBox had the opposite side to that... and PS2 had 3X the space (GBA had a little space, but not much)

Now all 5 sets of shelves, plus a wall-space area (probably equal to 4 sets of shelves) are almost entirely for buying games, though a small bit for PS2 rental and PSP UMD films.

In the video store near my house, I'd say about a third of the store is devoted to videogames and the majority of that is for games that can be rented. The full price games are in a locked case and only take up a small part of the store.

The Blockbuster I rented from is now about half-games. Used games, full-price games. They even rent PC and DS(!) titles, heaps of Wii/360/PS3/PS2 games, hardware and more.

About 25% of the store is flogging off ex-rental/cheap movies as well. Picked up two more (classic) James Bond titles for $10 each... sweet :)

...

Rental is not that different from 2nd-hand game titles really. I'll rather spend $10 on a rental, than $80 on a purchase, only to trade it in for $30-$40 a month later. If I buy a game, I almost always keep it.

No More Madworld

Mad Heroes

Madworld Heroes

Mad No More

It could either be really good, and I mean REALLY GOOD, or it would be absolutely terrible. It is black and white; no grey area. (See what I did there?)

Yeah it's not the best game out there but I think it really nails the Wii controls and that's what makes it fun..

I'm only up to the second level so far though.. Just started playing Majora's Mask for the first time :D

Well then maybe you just don't like hack and slash games in general. I mean almost all hack and slash games are the same. It's a lot of repetitive attacks followed with a variety of different moves that are usually finishers. Name any other game that is even remotely like Madworld and you'll see what I mean.

It is not the best game in any respect but it is one of the most unique games I have played in a while and not just because of the visual style. The level of gore and blood, the kinds of finishing moves and attacks, and even the punk storyline was very refreshing to play. It may not be the best hack and slash ever made but it was a refreshing play through for the genre.

I might get madworld later this month.

You basically wrote the same things I've written in another thread dedicated to the game. My feelings are exactly the same as yours.

Prepare for termination! It is the only logical thing to do, for I am only loyal to Megatron.

Not quite the colour I was on about, it's actually a greenish colour which is the blood for the Greys (aliens) in Area 66.

Pacman taught people to run around in dark rooms munching on pills while listening to repettive techno music and for that I somewhat idolise him.
