In the video store near my house, I'd say about a third of the store is devoted to videogames and the majority of that is for games that can be rented. The full price games are in a locked case and only take up a small part of the store.

The Blockbuster I rented from is now about half-games. Used games, full-price games. They even rent PC and DS(!) titles, heaps of Wii/360/PS3/PS2 games, hardware and more.
About 25% of the store is flogging off ex-rental/cheap movies as well. Picked up two more (classic) James Bond titles for $10 each... sweet :)

Rental is not that different from 2nd-hand game titles really. I'll rather spend $10 on a rental, than $80 on a purchase, only to trade it in for $30-$40 a month later. If I buy a game, I almost always keep it.
