If a game lives up to expectations then it is not over hyped, so I can not agree with your list. I would say a more realistic list would be;

-Lair
-Too Human
-Grand Theft Auto 4
-Haze
-Halo 3

All of those games were hyped massivly by their respective fanboys, and each of them failed to meet expectations.

Games like;

-Killzone 2
-Metal Gear Solid 4
-Gears of War 1 & 2
-Little Big Planet
-Mass Effct

All lived up to the hype around them and in turn, they are not over hyped, but hyped on good merit.

Excellent list. Personally, I'd have to mention Bioshock. It started as a step back from System Shock 2 and ended as a fetch quest, lousy boss fight and then a laughably bad ending (evil).

I like your posts more every day.

As for Bioshock, I think the first 2/3rds of the game deserve some credit. Rapture is possibly the most engaging game world ever (maybe the Wastelands from Fallout 1/2 are better but it's close) and the beginning of the game is definitely engaging.

But you're right. It's System Shock 2 for retards. Too bad, really, because that game had so much potential in its world, political and philosophical undertones, and antagonist (whose death happens to coincide with the game turning to shit).

This is the five most HYPED, not overhyped. MGS4, KZ2 and Crysis lived up to the hype, Halo 3 came close, only GTA4 was a disappointment.

Ah, the wonderful System Shock 2.

I can never understand the thinking that games like SS2, Deus Ex, Thief, etc. must be 'dumbed down' for consoles... but it does seem to be the common developer response.

Can someone bring up those graphs and numbers from Starcrafts thread last weak and just kill off this thread promptly?

I love when people don't look anything up and post nonsense.

Don't gaming folk use Google?  How the heck can Yahoo have so many more results than Google?

Interesting stuff, but to get an accurate picture you'd need to factor in one is the total for a game with lots of pre-release hype plus years on sale vs a game with lots of pre-release hype and a few days on sale - i.e. this data is not normalized in any way and is just the usual stuff flung back and forth between fanboys.

I was surprised by the huge Yahoo numbers aswell.

That post was in response to the statement: "Halo 3 is nothing but a blip on the internet radar compared to the hype titan Killzone 2." It may not be perfectly accurate, but it certainly proved a point.

Also if I am not mistaken wasn't numonex one of those those this month and last month that admitted to being tired of all the KZ2 threads on the front page?

How many did he just make now? 3? 4?

Take your own advice. Post in the Official KZ2 thread.

But hey, either way, thanks for putting KZ2 in the spotlight more.

LOL! Wrong thread.

Killzone 2 more hyped than Halo 3? I don't remember KZ2 having it's own soda, and being plastered over BK food, and being sold at midnight at 7 Eleven. My GS didn't even have a midnight launch of KZ2, but they did of H3.

So I'd say that KZ2 is fifth on the list of games there.

It's actually more like this

GTA IV
Halo 3
MGS4
Crysis
KZ2

Overmarketed not necessarily overhyped.  Halo 3 was marketed like a monster.  Killzone 2 was hyped beyond belief on here.  And did have prelaunch.
