Forums - Gaming Discussion - The Wii generation. History will judge the 3rd parties

I hear you megaman. I look at it like this, those who shunned the Wii and continue to do so, will continue to see red. There are always consequences to actions, in this particular case there are consequences to not focusing on the market leader.

Bet between Slimbeast and Arius Dion about Wii sales 2009:

If the Wii sells less than 20 million in 2009 (as defined by VGC sales between week ending 3d Jan 2009 to week ending 4th Jan 2010) Slimebeast wins and get to control Arius Dion's sig for 1 month.

If the Wii sells more than 20 million in 2009 (as defined above) Arius Dion wins and gets to control Slimebeast's sig for 1 month.

It really is a shame 3rd partys turn the cold shoulder on the wii.

Sure the wii can't handle the 1080p graphics and maybe not the high frame rates and such, but look at SMG. Its the best game on the wii and it rocks! Why can't 3rd parties make a game as good as SMG? No more heroes is the best attempt at an original 3rd party title on the wii and it got good reviews (but nothing extraordinary) and less than 400,000 sold LTD.

Owner of: PS3, 360, Wii, DS, PSP, PS2, DC, and Xbox.

Most Wanted: Gran Turismo 5, Conduit, Assassin's Creed 2

What "history"? This is just gaming! People will keep saying sh!t in the next generations, hugely biased for one side, and contradict each other.

Anyways, If you really want to look this way, "History is written by the winners", as the saying goes:
The next generations majority will be the Wii crowd, the people who LIKED the Wii. They will remember to the console that had many great games(for them) it will not be remembered for its 3rd party games that no one will remember.

What I find amazing is most company's are losing money to the point of mass job loses and even going out of business, yet most people here or any forums will keep saying they support this idea more than actually developing for the Wii.

Now I understand why most gamers don't work in these companys because they love to crash and burn.

The OP is harsher than even me.
Don't worry, Nintendo's reputation is far from being touched by all these crappy 3rd parties.
That's just wishful thinking from Wii haters. On the contrary, Nintendo is cimenting even more its reputation as makers of good games with the Wii.
For 3rd parties, you're seeing the mid term consequences now. These are not the worst.
The worst will be the long term consequences, when the 3rd parties are faced with a population of Wii gamers that don't know any of their game, meaning they'll have to make even more effort to make their games known.
That is, for those that survive.

I'm still not seeing the hate for Dead Space Wii, at least not yet. To be a rail shooter doesn't necessarily make a judgement on the game's quality. My theory is not that it is a cash-in, but they are attempting to do a different spin on the game. They tried an exploration horror title, now they're trying a rail shooter, but purpotedly a rail shooter with depth

I'm willing to bet that Konami's big announcement before GDC (the one they referred to in response to the speculation regarding Kojima's address thereat) is also a Wii title

This is the year that it all turns around, irrefutably in the Wii's direction

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Yea but im a little sick of saying that shit over and over again to be honest.

I emailed IGN, demanded to know why Bozon was defending the on rails shooter, he is clearly biased considering HOTD, and why Matt wouldn't explain or respect our views. That Capcom, Konami and now EA are continualy ruining our expectations is a friggin travesty. I am upset and those f----ers can atleast acknowledge why we are upset. They know what Wii owners want and they should be asking, on our behalf, why these companies don't put some goddamned effort in to it.

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

Actually this will be the generation remembered for the best leap forward in controller interface technology, and the best leap forward for the image of gaming as a worldwide family phenomenon instead of just for nerds. Nintendo is responsible for both of those. THANK THEM. THANK THEM NOW!

While I don't think that people will (necessarily) judge third parties harshly in the generations to come, I do think that their decisions may come back to haunt them ...

My brother won't buy Call of Duty World at War for either the PS3 or the Wii because he believes the Call of Duty series is garbage because of how bad Call of Duty 3 was for the Wii. How many people bought, rented or borrowed a Call of Duty, Medal of Honor, or Far Cry game for the Wii because they wanted to play a decent first-person shooter and was so disapointed that they will never consider that franchise again? When a new Dead Space or Resident Evil game is brought to the Wii (or its successor) how many people will aviod it because they don't like rail-shooters, and how many people who buy it to play a rail shooter will be disapointed when it is a third-person shooter or survival horror game?
