Forums - Sales Discussion - Will the PS3 fall below 15% marketshare in Americas in 2009?

10% would be more significant but I know that won't happen. It got roughly 13.5% this week (I think?)

Its total marketshare in Americas is 17%

Forget games, Killzone will not give the PS3 any significant boost unless Sony advertise the hell out of it. So what will we have in America in 2009?

The 360 at mass market price

The Wii not supply constrained

The PS3 at its price in a recession.

All 3 go against the PS3, It has never had any sort of hold in America, even when it was outselling the 360 last year it was never by huge margins in America. Christmas is over. No more crazy spending from consumers.

What do you all think?

Please please for the love of god, don't post here whining and stamping your feet like a child, screaming "hater", I'm just curious to see what people think will happen in this situation.

i doubt it, i see more people buying the ps3 this year, so it will stay where its at right now, of course wii will try to aim for one wii per human being on the world soon. Just saying, it will suck if it looses more market share than it has, but 360 and wii would have to be dirt cheaper for that to happen

What are your reasons for the PS3 selling more, and the Wii and 360 are already selling enough for it to happen.

Uhh no.

Why don't you put forward some thought rather than just "uhh no" ... you make it sound impossible.

I doubt it.

Generally, consoles see different kinds of sales in certain times of the year. The Ps3 has (both this year, and last year) proven that it isn't one of the consoles that take off like hell during christmas.

In Q4 (so far) it has had 13.95% market share.

But that doesn't really mean a lot. Sure, it means something, but you can't draw a trend with it.

In Q3, it had 21% market share.

Despite the changes that have happened lately, Q3 is still closer to what Q1 will be than Q4 is. Of course, as the Ps3 has started "failing" lately, it won't maintain 21% market share, but I'd say that sticking to ~ 17% (at least for Q1-Q3) seems more reasonable.

But as it has proven that Q4 is now equally large as Q1 + Q2 + Q3 combined (in Americas), the Ps3 could still dip to around 15-16%.

If I were to predict a trend, I would say that the Ps3 will sell about equal to its market share in Q1-Q3, and then drop slightly during the holidays. Repeat for next year.

So eventually, perhaps (heck, after X360 + Ps3 dies off, but Wii continues (something that is bound to happen) it will be likely that it drops to sub 15%). But I don't see it happening in 2009, and 2010 is also unlikely.

That is VGChartz LONGEST review. And it's NOT Cute Kitten DS

That would be quite absurd.

But i dont feel like bucking gamer heads with you again since you have some sort of stealthed PS3 hate goin on.

Imo though, no, just...no...

Christ its at 17% and this is the Americas we are talking about not WW, its not absurd at all.

Think what you like. You're much the same.

It might be possible. The Xbox 360 and Wii sales should be up next year on the back of strong post Christmas momentum whilst sales for the PS3 will likely be down YOY when compared to 2008, especially as some people pointed out that Christmas may be the last big splurge before the wallets of many, many people slam shut.

Tease.
