Everyone has been focused on the inevitable passing of the 360 by the Wii. How about the PS3? Is it destined to become 3rd? Or can it eventually catch the 360 and take 2nd? I know some of you still fancy the idea that it will take 1st, but, c'mon...seriously.

Looking at the charts, when the PS3 launched back in November the 360's worldwide numbers were at approximately 5.3m. That means the 360 had a 5.3m unit sales lead when PS3 launched for those of you who didn't get that right off the bat.Now, the lead is approximately 6.21m. This means that the 360 actually increased its lead by almost 1m units. Granted we haven't even had a full year's worth of sales, nor has any killer aps launched on the PS3 that are comparable to Gears of War or the soon to be had Halo 3. So, realistically the PS3 hasn't been at its best performance yet.

In the end this shows me that there is a definite possibility that the 360 will remain #2 in the end. I give a an 65%(EDITED) chance of pwnage over the PS3.

I think the PS3s biggest advantage is that it has 3 markets. 360 only has 2. Even if the PS3 doesn't sell as well overall in all regions, Japan alone can push it above 360's level. Especially since a lot of games are going 360 & PS3 but not Wii. For Japan, that's essentially a PS3 exclusive.

Yeah good point. But, how many games will push Japan over the Halo's in America that we know PS3 will have and Wii won't? I can only think of one, Final Fantasy.

 You're right that PS3 has the world market advantage, but Japan hasn't been buying them like crazy either.  It's still up in the air, I think 60% chance MS will stay in the lead, they have an established user base, they have an established library of exclusives, they seem like they will survive the Hardware debacle, and they can drop to $199 alot faster than PS3 can in a worst case scenario.

I think we will see the ps3 taking 2nd in 2008.

I'm basically saying the release date of FFXIII.

I'm pretty sure that, in its best week this year vs. the 360, the PS3 had a 50K + advantage. To erase a more or less 6m 6.21m gap at that level, it would take over two years, into October the winter of 2009.

I'm not saying that's what's going to happen. The gap could very well increase or decrease - almost certainly decrease, next week. But it's food for thought.

i dont know where u are getting numbers such as 5.3 mill head start look at even the VG numbers at september 06 they had shipped/sold over 6million so 2months later when ps3 came out those 6million shipped probably were sold or even more so i would say more like 6.5million to 7million start and now ps3 have sold over 4.5 million and close to 5 and 360 is still at 10million and about to be passed by wii so i doooo think in reality that ps3 has just as good of a shot of passing 360 as wii just that wii will do it alot sooner.....................also here is another question name me even 3 great killer aps games that 360 are coming out with for next year................??? ok how about PS3...........KILLZONE2, MGS4, FFXIII, FFXIII-Versus, Little big planet, i mean sony is coming out with great extensive selection of games and another price drope so...............i ask u again do u still see 360 as the crown winner at the end..........feel free to add cause i like to know what i missed :)
