My favourite battle systems so far have been Final Fantasy Tactics, Fire Emblem, Valkyria Chronicles, J'eanne D'Arc and the Disgaea series. I love the battle system used in most SRPG's.

In terms of real time, I've always enjoyed Dark Cloud 2.

the only rpg games that i still playing is ff12, seriously dam too hard and taking up my time so i put it on freeze right now and focus on xbox games but will finnish it soon, i also didn't finish xenosage episode 3, i think i finish 2 already not sure.

Cool my favorite rpg's are kingdom hearts and pokemon.

Despite critical bemoaning of it, I think the "battle system" in Fallout 3 is well done, and just as balanced as the previous two iterations' combat systems were. Take that as you will: an endictment on the poor state of combat in earlier Fallouts or praise of Fallout 3.

ADoM's a hack'n'slash affair, but its defence system (PV and DV) added spice to the collection of armour.

I think my favourite "battle system" of all time would be Diablo I and II's. Really. Just let me play and role play my character. Click, click, click, click. I don't want to spend time mastering combat tedium, I want to have fun and explore a crazy world. I want to make my own story, I don't want to progress to the next level. I like the battle system of games like Nethack and Contact for these reasons too.

Does anyone else think that the term battle system implies party-based combat? I find the term hard to apply to the single character CRPGs I predominantly play.

Currently playing: Wii Fit / The Sims 3

Try  PrizeRebel , it could make you  rich ! I have  $15.80 USD  so far. I  love  BengaBenga' Most Wante lists.

Well I am not a fan of sRPGs, I did not like FFT (PSP) I just kept on failing!!!!!

Anyway, I do like turn based, I am not a great fan of real time because if I want to have to manually dodge enemy attacks, I'll go and play a hack n' slash!

I am a bit of an RPG noob, with FF X being my first game, and favourite in every way. There was some depth in there, but I did not feel overwhelmed. LO's battle system was just a little bit slow for my tastes, and something like Star Ocean is too much of an action RPG.

What I did play was the demo of Eternal Sonata, and I enjoyed the battle system, it is certainly an interesting style, a slightly slower version of SO's battle system, but slightly slower which I did like. The only problem was the limited number of attacks, but I don't have the game, so I don't know how deep it is

I would be interested to find out more about TLR's system, and it was a game that did look inertesting, but there do seem to be many problems with it

the battle system that was the 1st one to actually make me pay attention was legend of dragoon, because u had to time that box with the other and hit the button when the right color was shown.

for RPGs... my favorite battle system had to be FFX's, I loved it for some reason.

I don't have a favoite RPG battle system. I liked LO's battle system, I liked KH's battle system, I liked SO3's battle system, and I even liked FFXII's battle system for different reasons.

The best combat in an RPG is easily from Baldur's Gate 2. There is no deeper, harder, and more party dependent combat than BG2's. It has literally hundreds of spells and skills, an extreme amount of costumization, and each NPC in your party must be worth it's weight in gold or else he will only slow you down.

Since the dificulty in Baldur's Gate 2 is insanely high, you will die ALOT, you will fight near-certain death battles ALOT. If your character and your party aren't perfectly-tuned, you will have a bad, bad time in combat.

Both Fallout 3 and it's predecessors have broken combat systems. On one hand, Fallout 3 is way too easy, the melee and shooting systems are beyond broken on consoles, and there is no inventory penalty in midcombat (in FO1&2, if you used items or opened your inventory while in combat you would lose Action Points). In Fallout 1 & 2, for a Turn-based system there is almost no tactics and it's a pain in the ass if there's alot of enemies. I still prefer Fallout 1 & 2 combat though.
