I don't think the 360 can do it because a Sony fan just showed me a long list of games that are releasing next year that are going to make the PS3 surpass the 360 overnight. The developers have been working so hard on some of the games that they have only tentative titles like Team Ico Project or Kojimas new project. Apparently there are over a 100,000,000 gamers waiting for these games to release so they can buy a PS3. Just wait until the price drops! /sarcasm

I don't understand why a lot of people in this thread think the PS3 is a price drop away from domination. Sure if they dropped the price they would sell more but seriously it's starting to get a bit late in this generation for big comebacks. We all know the 360 had a year headstart but the Wii shot right past it and that in turn causes people to think they have all been around about the same amount of time. Some people I know that waited in line with me to get a PS3 at launch forgot it came out a year after the 360. People are starting to judge the PS3 like it's on equal footing compared to the 360. This Christmas people will see a lot of the same games for both consoles and see the big difference in price and that may cause a stigma that it's just as good to get a 360 instead of a PS3.

Selling 1 console more in Q1/Q2 already is enough to outsell the other in this discussion.

theres no pricing waggle room left for 360, if ps3 sales can keep up with 360 saless this fal, im sure it will. then price cuts on ps3 in 2009 wll move big numbers. theres more demand for a ps3e than a 360, 360 pre major price cut sales r proof of that.............i predict in 2009 360 will again become stagnanted in demand like it was this year, chuck in a cheaper ps3 compared to this year which wud make it much more affordable.........its a sure winner..................a 249 or a 239 ps3 in the uk would be amazing

And there in lies the flaw in your logic.  You make it sound as if it would be EASY for Sony to drop the price of the PS3 when almost ALL evidence leans to that NOT being easy for Sony to do. 

Businesses have to make a profit and we are now in a recession that doesn't seem like its going anywhere.  Sony is going to have a hard time this holiday as a whole as pretty much ALL retailers are reporting EXTREMELY slow sales for retail goods all around.  Most companies are going to come out of this holiday period with LOWER than expected sales for retail products.

So, again, almost all evidence that we have available to us RIGHT NOW makes an early price cut for the PS3 of $100 anything BUT easy ...

I doubt there are any real games that will move enough consoles to really pay attention to. In Japan there may be a spike for a few weeks with WKC, but Japan as a whole has become insignificant to the home console market. Its being outstripped by places like the U.K. Most games do not move consoles, and the only game which is ensured to do so is GT5 which probably won't be releasing until the end of Q2 at minimum.

Bundles of software may be good but they absolutely kill revenue from those games, especially in America. If for example, Killzone 2 is bundled you would expect to see a lot of games hit the used market very quickly and they would not make money on the sale of the game and lose potential full retail price purchases because people would be picking up the used copies as well instead of buying the software new, so its a double hit really.

Its not like Microsft would be powerless to respond to a price cut on the PS3 either. Unlike Sony, the parent company is doing extremely well and unlike Sony they have a profit margin they can eat into for price cuts.

If the PS3 is crazy enough to drop there prices a $100 dollars next year. Could you imagine if Microsoft did the same to the core. I agree the PS3 would sell though the roof... BUT.... a $99 dollar core might sell insane too. As Microsoft did many times this gen Sony will never have the price advantage.
Why am I always reading that most peps only think about one side only?

Q1 it is very likely, same cannot be said about Q2. Price cuts is the only thing which works in NA as standards are very low and people want the cheapest stuff, same cannot be said for EU and Japan. Killzone 2 releases in Feb (if quality = sales, the MP alone should have 10 million sales ;)) and the big one GT5, FFXIII, GOW 3 etc so many big games still coming.

The thing is that people constantly say the 360 will outsell the PS3 due to one thing.......price. It is being pretty much admitted that if both consoles were of similar price PS3 would be wiping the floor with 360.

So, after October NA weekly sales 50k for PS3 vs 90k for x360, you say, that x360 will continue outsell PS3?

1. Europe + Japan > NA
In those 2 regions PS3 is doing better then x360(MOST of the time).
2. What releases x360 has in those 1Q and Q2 ?
x360: Halo wars(WW), SO4. What else?
PS3: WKC, KZ2, Yakuza 3(JP), FFXIII demo(JP).
