Well, whereas I would be happy to "welcome you to the club" if you really want to get a 360. I am kinda wondering about your decision based off of the sales.

I mean, do you enjoy playing those games? If so, do you really need to go with something else?

I dunno, it just seems wierd to me. Maybe if someone saw like horrible reviews, that they trusted after reading, and were like damn! I thought Wii Muus%% I mean ahem. (No specific game in general) /he he eh was going to be great but now I'm not so sure it's worth the money so, How can I spend wisely.. I get that.

but to see it not selling well, on a console that does tend to be abit slower on software sales, I just don't see why thats a big deal. No judgement though. Some people like rooting as much as the game itself I guess.

Um...I don't think LBP and Resistance 2 are bad games dude. I was talking about sales issues on Sony's part.

It doesn't appear  that you have a PS3, so I ask, how would you know whether each game was good or not? Perhaps a 30 second peak at a friends, hmm?

 

Actually yesterday I treated myself a PS3. I'm buying MGS4 on friday.

 

Yesterday... And in that time you've been able to complete LBP and Resistance 2?

On Topic - I think everyone is missing the point here... Why create a game that will cost you more to develop on the console that sells less software??

As long as the 360 keeps increasing its lead you'll see more exclusives (timed or not) heading to the 360 by third party developers. More PC developers will create 360 ports, and more games will lead to more console sales.

The PS3 is in trouble, a price cut saved it last time in Europe and almost killed the 360 in Europe. Another one is needed really soon, cause the nails are starting to pile up next to the coffin again (I'm not saying the PS3 is dead, I'm just saying the undertaker is starting to collect his stuff)

Because by creating games on the PS3 it is easier to port to other platforms thus saving you money. Hint hint look at what EA is doing... We've also seen the PS3 creating more revenue for developers. And people need to knock it off with this "the PS3 is in trouble" business. Just take a peak at the front page, costs 2x as much, sells just as many... Kinda makes you think doesn't it?

 

What are you talking about? The PS3 is not the easiest system to start the job and save money porting to others. Just for starters the PS3 is the most expensive console to develop for and the most time consuming. If a game is ported to the PS3, bro...it's going to take a while. It may sell just as many, but it's 5 million behind, they cannot make profit off of online premium like Microsoft can (and they want to,trust me. Especially now that Kutaragi is out of the picture), and Microsoft throws more money at their games to be more appealing. Microsoft out of them and Sony are acting more like a dominant corporation than Sony is, just expecting people to leave their 3rd party games exclusive.

FYI i owned a 360 for one year and sold it after i purchased a PS3 on GTA IV release day

your basis for good games is sales. this means your reasoning is mindless and fanboy-oriented.

think about it. even if nobody bought littlebigplanet, does it mean it sucks? if 10 million people buy wii music, does it mean it's good?

no. sales have nothing to do with quality.

so if you reason that since the 360 has more software sales therefore they will make better games in the future, your reasoning is simply dumb. they can, possibly, but there is no necessary connection whatsoever.

bottom line, you should support the console you want to because of the games they produce. i support ps3 because i love gran turismo and god of war. you, on the other hand, seem to be jumping on the bandwagon of the 'popular' choice, which is totally just fanboyish and ridiculous.

 

 Stop harassing the guy...he just said he wants to be where the majority of the games will be. Theres no harm in that, because it's true. The way that MS is playing their cards, they split the grounds between the PS2 owners of last gen between the 360 and the PS3 this gen. They have a non Blu Ray alternative, where they can play HD games for less. Should he be bashed for that? I think Sony will always have a hand to play, which is why they have LBP, MGS4 and Resistance 2. The big problem is that less that 1/4 of the installed base is actually buying the games. I think someone sold to the system to the wrong people. This guy did nothing wrong. I don't doubt that he'll still be playing his PS3.

It's called having a shitty installed base. 1/4 of the current installed base actually pushes units and thats not enough, because those are only the top tier games. Why don't people listen when I say that the PS3 installed base has a neglectful portion of non gamers who only bought it because its a cheap Blu Ray player? Sony shot themselves in the foot selling to two different markets, because it lowered expectancies for game sales without them knowing it. They knew they were taking a risk in losing money, but didn't know that so many people who were non gamers would buy the PS3. Tsk....dumbasses.

I doubt any of them bought the PS3. The people who buy it are probably going to be in the age range for games. It is these people who also perchase the system for Blu-Ray. The system is a black product (as appose to a light product like the Wii is trying to be). The dark products are for higher tier consumers. It would be strange for someone to want Blu-Ray, but not games. The possibilities seem too low. Non-gamers, typically, wont buy something if it is too expensive which the PS3 is.

 

 

 Non-Gamer=Someone who doesn't play videogames. Go to Best Buy.com and look up Blu Ray players under the most affordable prices. You'll find the PS3 there. It's not strange for someone to want Blu Ray and not games if you look at the installed base and actual sales. The PS3's existence saved Blu Ray from a pointless existence, because Blu Ray and HD DVD were dead in the water.

As for the bold in your statement: The PS3 was considered a cheap Blu Ray player. Now that the PS3 has sold some millions, they dropped the price of Blu Ray because they duped gamers into buying a system with a Blu Ray player in it and that forced Blu Ray sales through the roof defeating HD-DVD. Microsoft tried to help HD-DVD, but it was all for nothing because of the fact that HD-DVD wasn't put in from the beginning and they had to create a $200 port. If the 360 would've come out with HD-DVD, they would've started out at the same price as the PS3 did. Microsoft gave people the OPTION as to whether their gamers wanted the DVD upgrade or not. HD-DVD flopped because 360 owners didn't support it. Case closed.

Like I said, it's easier to port from PS3 to other consoles, which in the long run saves time and money. Why do you think EA, a massive gaming company is beginning to do this?

how is it shotting themselves in the foot? you realize movie studios make more money of Blu-ray sales versus DVD. So really Sony might have injured their game department but really helped their movie department meaning that in the end they are doing pretty well. Their tactics paid off.

You have to realize that Sony and Microsoft are not strictly game console manufacturers. They are multi-billion dollar corporations that have their hands in many different areas. They are willing to take a hit in one area if it benefits another.

 

It's shooting themselves in the foot because Sony makes profit off of 30% of published titles. They could've made more if they didn't focus on two markets. You see, when people bought the PS3 strictly for Blu Ray is created a huge gap between true gamers and DVD player owners. They raised expectancies of profit for games and everything fell off kilter. If they want to sell a true multimedia system, they need to be more organized and even you can admit that.

Sony cannot afford to take so many hits. Microsoft took a hit and didn't have to give up as much as Sony, because it was just a problem with the system. If people weren't worried about quality in a microsoft system, the 360 would probably have sold more instead of getting such bad press about quality. I've just named Microsoft's achillies heel....can you name Sony's? I just did...but can you accept it.

Are you joking, in the category of hits I'd say they are both pretty equal, if not then Microsoft has taken more. Microsoft took a massive hit releasing a defective system, they've kept their system unprofitable for 3 years now (Remember more sales of an unprofitable console means more money lost), they paid $50 million for DLC for GTA but if you look at the sales compared to userbases the PS3 version sold just as well as the 360. They wasted time and money on HD DVD, and who knows how many checks were written for other games. From a software perspective Microsoft has destroyed Sony, I'll agree with that, but at everything else they completely bombed. It'd be tough, if not impossible to find some official figures but I'm pretty damn sure Microsoft has lost more money on it's gaming division than Sony.

 

i think LTD the gamimg division at MS has lost twice what sony's gaming division has, sony has at least been profitable before but the 360 is only making some few bucks compared to ps2, wii, ds, ps1, heck they make even less that GC ever did. Ps3 on the other hand has been the black sheep of the ps family, he is like the gay son that put the family to shame.

alright, on to other things. Other than the OP, whose decision to purchase a 360 wasn't decided upon because of the PS3's slow sales, but, watch closely now, because of how the developer community will respond to the LEADING hardcore console. In other words, lead console gets the overall better games because of sales rates divided among user base. Which would be the 360. That's why he's going to purchase it. I mean, seriously, how do guys miss that. Anyway, other than the OP, i've never seen a larger collection of droopy boobs outside of a geriatric nudist camp. You PS3 guys take the cake. (oh, speaking of cake, you can buy Portal on Live Arcade. Nice)
