Forums - Gaming Discussion - How'd You Like Your Game Ending to Be DLC?

Lots have it... but lots don't connect their console.

I don't see a problem with having to sit through a short-ish download so that my favourite developers can earn what they deserve.

Technically I've done it before when I downloaded Siren: Blood Curse, which came in 12 episodes. I only had to wait through the first download, the rest were done while I was playing.

In this instance though there wouldn't be any waiting since you would be playing the rest of the game while you downloaded the ending. Sounds a good idea to me.

Honestly, if this were to ever hit a retail game I would pirate it. I would also do my best to spread the game through illegal channels. I am all for developers making their money, and buy 99% of my games new. All that aside I will not put up with this crap. You want people to buy your games rather than rent them? Then make a better game. Add interesting multiplayer, or a lot of fun single player side missions that take a long time to complete. Make a game that is fun to play through again and again.

Trying to force me to buy your short game will only piss me off. I will pay a reasonable price to play games. Offer me what I feel is $50 worth of content and I will gladly pay it. Offer me what feels like $5 worth of content and I will simply rent it. Try to force me to buy your ending and I will steal it just to spite you.

+1 People sell the games because they're bored of it. Stop making short, repetitive games

This DLC stuff is getting out of hand!

Or there have been times when my consoles just couldn't connect to my internet.  There for a few months my 360, PS3, and Wii just didn't connect to my home network.  One day they stopped connecting, about two months later they started connecting again.  No idea why but didn't really bother me that much since I don't do a lot of online gaming on my consoles.

I couldn't imagine how much it would have sucked if I had gotten my shiny new game during that time and couldn't finish it because I couldn't download the ending.

I don't think anyone will dare to do it anyway...

The assumption that every one of their paying customers are on-line(all over the world) is pretty baseless.

Answer to the opening question:
About as much as a violent genital rash.

"The accumulated filth of all their sex and murders will foam up about their waist and all the whores and politicians will look up and shout "Save us!"...

....and I'll look down and whisper  "no."

Considering that most players don't finish every game they start, I don't see how this would influence them to buy a new retail copy.

But essentially, the gist is buy a new copy or end up with an incomplete game. Pretty draconian. And while used game sales don't add to total sales figures for a soft, this can't be seen as anything more than a counterproductive grasping at straws.

The industry is currently looking in all directions for the means to meet projected returns on investment, but some of the ideas being implemented and suggested are getting a bit ridiculous.

It's already wrecking the PC retail experience, which for me means that unless it's on Steam or has no potentially game breaking DRM (any instance you can't play a game you bought), I won't buy it.

But as for stealing games to "spite" developers (actually you're trying to spite publishers, but only hitting the developers), not even worth the effort. Stealing something you don't even want is about as peurile as it is idiotic. And if you want it, but are using any excuse other than being flat-assed broke to avoid paying for it, you're not demonstrating principle; you're just being a hypocrite.

No...no. The DLC is getting out of hand.

Some people use it smartly but I think its just way to get people to pay for extras that couldve just been in the final build. I say this one MOST cases but not in all.
