I can't wait till someone at Nintendo actually explains the SD card solution.

"We will also make it so that you will need to go through just one process in order to transfer Virtual Console or WiiWare software stored on an SD card to the Wii console and then be able to play it."

According to this you can't play VC games straight from the SD card. Damn.

I think this topic is about funcionality rather than space :S

CORRECT!!!

Iwata explains the SD card storage solution that doesn’t really help out
“We will make it so that, when there is not enough room on the Wii’s internal memory, you will be able to purchase and download Virtual Console and WiiWare software directly from the Shopping Channel to an SD memory card. We will also make it so that you will need to go through just one process in order to transfer Virtual Console or WiiWare software stored on an SD card to the Wii console and then be able to play it. We would like to deal with this issue utilizing two methods. Since the updates to realize these new structures will require significant revisions to the Wii system, and these changes need to be made by taking care of a variety of different angles, this method will become effective beginning next spring. For some of you, this may be considered late. But please know that we really appreciate your cooperation and understanding. We are working hard so we can begin the service as soon as possible.” - Satoru Iwata

We get a new method of storage, but as we’ve said in the past, you still can’t read directly from the card. It’s just another way of shuffling around data. You’ll still have to swap things in and out just to play a game, and I don’t see that as a solution at all.

@LordTheNightKnight

"You just assumed lack of proof was proof of a lack, which is not logical, nor truthful."

Just give the guy his due. He had a bad feeling from the beginning about the vague wording that Iwata gave, and he turned out to be right. If anything I could say that you and a bunch of others in this thread were doing a similar thing when you were all arguing your "He obviously meant that..." claims with inadequate evidence which varied from source to source.

He didn't know at the time, and he claimed he posted "the truth". That was all that I called on.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs

I have been thinking this through some more.

Could internal memory mean RAM instead of ROM (storage)?

That would make matters much different.

Hi, Mike.

Sorry to say this, but I don't think so based on the following excerpt from what Mr. Iwata said:

そしてSDメモリーカード上のチャンネルなどのWiiソフトを、簡便な 操作で本体保存メモリにコピーして実行することを1回の操作で行えるようにすること

I translated this as, "Second, you will be able to copy Wii software from an SD memory card to the Wii's internal memory with one easy operation."
However, the bit in bold literally says "copy to main unit save memory".

Thanks for the clarification. I am not sure all the details are fully known on this.
But from what has been said -- it appears the OP was right in his fear.

If this is true as currently understood/described, the question becomes WHY? -- as in what difference does this make?

All I can think of is that the real change is to speed up the transfer rates so that it is much easier than the current operation (which seems to be the way we will still be doing things).
