Forums - Gaming Discussion - del Toro: "There are only two games I consider masterpieces..."

Interview with Director Guillermo del Toro. (Edge Magazine)

What’s impressed you recently?

I love the engine of GTA IV. I’m not a big fan of the actual game: I’m not into break-ins or running people over, but the engine is incredibly beautiful, and the sandbox is very complete. The same goes for Medal of Honor Airborne, Call of Duty 4 or Army of Two. There are only two games I consider masterpieces: Ico and Shadow of the Colossus.

What do you guys think? Personally, I think Metroid Prime, Ico, and Portal are all masterpieces.

I'd probably add in Portal. Was there any indication that he'd played the game? Since it's much newer than SotC or Ico.

I'm not sure. I didn't even know he played videogames.

Also, I'd add in Ocarina of Time.

MGS and MGS 4

Legend of Zelda: Orcania of Time & Goldeneye 007

Ico is a little over rated. I bought it. I enjoyed it. I traded it in. No regrets.
