Wishing a console doesn't outsell your console of choice, that has to be the most immature and pathetic thing I've heard in my entire life.

Oh, go and tell everyone not to buy ubizoft gamez since you don't like them. That is so mature! :D

@ OP if the Wii did outsell the PS2 in total console sales. Well..... life goes on.

The wii seems to be expanding the market more. Most of the ps2 were for it being a cheap dvd player. Also so will the wii. It will help new developers that are small such as high voltage break the shovleware streak, and various wiiware developers. This is because development costs are so low. So while your points are valid for the ps2, I believe they are even more so for the wii.

Nintendo fanboys always make excuses when other systems sell well. Isn't it possible that it was just an amazing system with a great library of games? And by saying "most," you're implying that the majority of people bought the PS2 as a cheap DVD player. Are you really suggesting that 60 million or more people worldwide bought the PS2 for a DVD player and nothing else?

Hell, I don't know pricing history, but I'm sure that by the time the PS2 was in large enough stock for people to buy it just to use it as a DVD player, normal players were probably cheaper.

Poor excuse. A great system sold well. People weren't buying replacements, nor DVD players.

Gaming systems sell because of price, library of games, and most importantly BRANDNAME.  What's hot and what everyone else is getting.  Word of mouth.  What'ever goes best for you.

More than likely, the majority of PS2 buyers weren't buying it because it had " a great library of games" but because it's what their friends had, what was mainstream, and what everyone was talking about.  People give way to much credit on why things sell because of gimmicks such as a random feature or a certain game.  The fact of the matter ladies and gentlemen, is that the main drive to sales of any product is it's brandname and the appeal of that brand.  When both sides that you described here Montana, your side and the Nintendo fanboys, come to understand this then you'll see why the Wii is selling well despite lack of games or why the PS2 sold so well despite all the features some of the other systems had.

Great systems don't sell well.  Bad systems don't sell well.  Great brands sell well.  The other stuff just helps add on.

What do you mean 'most importantly'? If that was the case, the PS3 should have been at the top of the sales list by now. The PS3, from my understanding, was getting much publicity before launch. Yet in the end it failed to live up to expectations in terms of sales. The Playstation brand was extremely popular yet it still failed. At the launch of the PS3, the price was to high and the games not very appealing, and it sold horribly. Yet now the price has dropped and the games library has much more variety, and it's actually selling well. I'd say Price and the variety of the games library are much more important than brandname.

I don't understand this.. so if the wii sells less than the ps2, doesn't that mean the gaming industry is dying down, how can any one on video game forum hope for that?

I hope it doesnt. That will teach nintendo to release a gamecube with motion controls

Or that will teach Sony to release a ps2 with better graphixs.

If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing   (mostly)

And shepherds we shall be,

For Thee, my Lord, for Thee. Power hath descended forth from Thy hand, That our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command. So we shall flow a river forth to Thee And teeming with souls shall it ever be. In Nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritūs Sancti. -----The Boondock Saints

I think it should, and it should demolish it, because Sony became very arogant after the two other consoles failed against the PS2. I hope, if the Wii beats the PS2 sales, that Nintendo won't do like Sony, and actually use their success for the better, after all, they always have. Sony already learned their lesson, don't be confident.

Every gen is different, and by Nintendo beating the PS2, it will prove to developers and "consumers" that originality is the way to go.

No it doesnt life for gaming ends at that moment

Yeah, with the current trend of extreme demand for the Wii still going on a year and a half after its launch, I think that the Wii will shoot by the PS2's sales number in less time than the PS2 itself took to get there.

Combine that with the growing 3rd party support and you have the same formula success as the PS2, but with a broader appeal to people who wouldn't have bought a PS2, but want a Wii.

It's quite funny that there are many people who wish the sales of one product won't exceed the other.

Their arguments sound a lot like Frank Grimes' condemnation of Homer Simpson as well!
