well microsft can give you a 360 and an operating system for your pc.

sony can give you the playstation, audio/video equipment, movies, the whole lot really.

sony has a top brand name with reliable and good brand name items.

imo sony has the better brand in the publics eye

i hope you are kidding, MS is our friend just like Stalin was a friend of the Motherland. just because they dominate an industry by force doesn't make them great, their monopoly has led to little more than stagnation in the developement of new ideas.

 

BTW, Apple is simply Gates' left nut, he is, or at least was, the majority shareholder for a long time and bailed them out when they were at the brink.

What amazes me how people are talking about Sony producing reliable hardware when in the respect of consoles they've only just got it right this generation! It's taken them 12 years.

The PS1 and PS2 were absolutely shoddy consoles, and as for the 360 well MS have greatly improved the quality of the console from the first major hardware revision.

Thank you? Where did this become a compair operating systems thread? Besides, if you compaired XP to Vista at the same points in their lives, it would be virtually tied. XP had hundreds and hundreds of updates to get where it is today, Vista will get the same, and be the new XP to what ever the next MS Operating system is. I remember people whinning like bitches with skinned knees when XP came out, "This sucks! Im going back to 2000! Im going back to 98!!" But you are probably too young to remember that, so in your world I guess what you say makes sense.

 

OT: Sony has a far better brand image in peoples minds. They havnt been sued by the US Government or the European Union for Monopoly, they havnt been subject to negative press for their flagship product (Windows) and even their console didnt have to go through the horrible publicity of RROD. So on a pure consumer viewpoint standing, Sony wins.

 

Microsoft as going for it the fact that they pretty much have a peice of everything that runs this entire planet. Thats a pretty big point no?



I own all three current consoles and a great gaming rig, now thats out of the way.

MS went from Bad [XP] to good [XP SP2] to just plain horrible [VIsta]. And since this site is about VIDEO GAME SALES, I will go with SONY, the champion with major dominance for 2 gen's straight. [but now that we've seen the Wii... Uh..... Yea.....]

Actually, I was using DOS on an 8088 for my first OS.  XP came out my first year of college and I switched to it within the year with no problems.  I have a dual boot of Vista and XP for reasons.  K.  Thanks.

 

But, yeah I agree with the rest of your post.  In non-English speaking countries, MS really seems to be very taboo as a brand.  While people on the Internet message boards know about Sony DRM practices in the past, there are much more people in the general public that know about MS and all of their scandals.

Last time i check they say that they now have a 16% failure rate.... that's still pretty bad. And even if ps1 and 2 didn't come out so well, did they every had a 30+% failure rate??? Did they ever have a problem as infamous as the RROD??? The YLoD is practically a myth from what i see.
