That's correct.

I really don't understand why anyone would make a 4k/120fps game when hardly anyone has a HDMI2.1 compatible tv... This sounds more like a marketing scheme than a true next gen game reveal. Oh, well lets hope not all Series X games will be aiming for such crazy fps and resolution numbers.

Demand will increase as content exists. I had no need for a 4K until I got a X1X.

It's certainly possible many games could offer a 120 fps mode. 8th gen games could have it patched in, which is suspected to come for Gears 5 and Gran Turismo.

Newer visually demanding games could also offer it at the compromise of resolution, assuming the CPU is up for the task. I would be surprised if Forza 8 doesen't have 120 fps.

Anyway, its an easy feature to add and it would encourage people to get 120 fps TVs.

Sounds interesting I guess don't have 4K TV yet and I doubt the one that is owned by my younger brother supports HDMI 2.1 its a pretty cheap one made by TCL.

Well most TVs even if they use hdmi 2.1 probably won't have true 120fps. But what would be the problem that a possible indie game with light load decide to make 4k120fps and offer a very smooth gaming for whoever have the TV or decide to put in a monitor that is fullhd or 1440p 120fps? It is giving more options for gamers to choose, and if it helps market so be it.

Do people in this thread realize just how small this studios games are?

Thats their previous games for example.

Spoiler!

This game is going to be something super small and MS, almost certainly, has nothing to do with it.

Sounds like a indie title. Curious

I don't understand the appeal of 120 fps. Is that supposed to be what the fps of real life is?

Nope, depending on how you measure your eye would be like 600fps. But it can reduce latency, improve gameplay

4K 120fps. WOW!! That is a great achievement. I don't think graphically intensive games like Gears, Uncharted, or anything like that will hit those marks. I do expect Forza to somehow though. I actually can't wait to see what Forza look like with that resolution and framerate.

Yep I also don't think graphically intense games will go over even 30fps. But it is good that on launch we will be seeing some 4k120fps games.

Man, I am really really hoping you are wrong about the 30 fps comment - but I have a downer suspicion that you will be right. I would love for even big single-player only games like Horizon, Uncharted, God of War, etc. to all be native 4K/60fps this gen, but again - I feel like I am setting my expectations up to be dashed lol

is it going to be a race game?

I'll look at it as a good thing. Like how some Xbox 360 games look better on Xbox One because they had better textures than the original console was even able to support (or something like that). We probably don't have compatible TVs and such now but whatever we connect it to, this mystery game will push it to the max. And when we eventually upgrade, it'll still be great looking.

That is why I put the info on the OP, to people to know it is a small studio (very recently it was a one person studio), but there is a possibility of MS supporting the dev.

No matter how powerful the machine is having 4k uses 3 to 4 times more resources than fullHD, 60fps uses 2x more resources than 30fps. So when a dev want to go for the maximum graphical showcase it will lower fps and/or res depending on their target and genre.

Final Star and Pirates of first star are really good games. Is good to see what indie developers can do with the new consoles.
