Ok I'll put my Gears rant on hold for a while. I started A Plague Tale yesterday and I'm now on chapter 7. Got to say it's been brilliant so far. So intense and engaging. Pacing is spot on and stealth isn't boring at all.

I just hope there is no Indigo child lurking in the shadows ready for a spectacular plot-twist :P

Pretty unfair to compare CliffyB with a pathological liar.

Got to agree with Cliffy, Gears 5 got too woke. Would still love to see him working on the campaign even though it won't happen. He did great with original trilogy. He might be able to evolve it while saying true to Gears of War.

I don't think that Peter ever intended to lie. He just got so excited about the possibility of things that he didn't stop to consult his programmers to ask if those things were actually possible on current hardware before he announced them.

What about his What's in the Cube? -game and kickstarters including Godus? Always just excitement and no intentional lies? Nope, he even flat out lies in interviews. It doesn't happen by accident with people like him.

I will say however, just because someone did great stuff in the past doesn't automatically mean they can do great stuff now, there's plenty of examples of 'veterans' across the gaming industry who created very good IP then went downhill and CliffyB hasn't really produced anything of note since Gears 3.

Well this is true. Rod Ferguson is the latest example of such 'veteran' I guess.

Can I just ask wth is woke about Gears?

They don’t smoke poles anymore. Deep State at it again.

Link to him saying Gears 5 got too woke?

Personally I think so to but for different reasons. Kait being the center of the story isn’t the issue because it’s about the origins of the locust. It makes sense to have it be about her. She isn’t a Mary Sue like Rey in Star Wars because Kait has been trained as an Outsider scavenger but more importantly as a COG military soldier. It’s funny seeing her lift heavy guns like it’s nothing but that’s just gaming for you...it would get old fast to see her struggle every time.

For me it’s the decentering of Marcus and JD. The game has always been about the Fenix clan saving the world. And now they are side characters. And they shamed JD by making him into a monster for quelling a violent riot.

And they go to noticeable lengths to shame the government for being totalitarian. We know their government is militaristic and authoritative, and bad in the real world, but we don’t need to be reminded that every cutscene. It’s ironic in this universe because they are the only dominant human faction left in the world, because they are who they are. The game should just own it and focus on the enemies and characters.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

Can we stop calling all things we disagree with, or don't like, woke? The Fenix family not being the centerpiece of the story anymore, after already being that for a whole trilogy, isn't "woke." Creating conflict between characters for differing opinions over brutal decisions during times of high stress, isn't "woke." Shining a spotlight on the COG not always being exactly the best entity in the world, as all Gears games have done to varying degrees btw, to add more interesting layers to the story beyond "humans good, ugly aliens bad," isn't "woke."

JD was so generic in Gears 4. He became somewhat more interesting in 5. I was happy for Kait to be the focus. Marcus still had a decent size role in Gears 5.

I agree his writing wasn’t good, but maybe I’m just paranoid  he was sidelined for most of the game and subsequently shamed by his best friends. Character writing can always be improved. But my other points I fully stand behind

Game is moving fast, in a playable state and yeah I already tried to zoom and enhance on his glasses.

Someone should try to make out the reflection in his glasses?

Phil is holding the tigers so it will probably have some shooting or driving mechanics.

Gears needs CliffyB back. The series was at its peak with him and lawbreakers was a fun game with interesting gameplay mechanics.
