Forums - Gaming Discussion - I quit The Witcher 3 after 33 hours

I tried too. It's not a very good game. I put in around 10 hours myself. Not what I'm looking for.

Ask stefl1504 for a sig, even if you don't need one.

I guess you shouldn't be falling for hype in the future. TW3 is solid game, there are some really great things about it, and then, especially if you're old school c/w/RPG fan, there are some that are quite weak.

And, of course, there are always people who don't understand that there is no open-world "genre" per se and that certain games are not to be compared.

Isn't that just about every Western RPGish game?

Completed it three times straight best open world of this gen.

For me it is Breath of the Wild, but Witcher 3 is certainly up there!

I kept pushing and pushing forward but I simply wasn't having any fun, it is the same thing over and over - a stupid cutscene, a new quest, follow the marker to it, another cutscene, then you fight some monster(s) and the quest is completed, rinse and repeat. I had more fun with a mediocrity like Arcania. Even the graphics are somewhat bad, played on Ultra at 1440p mind you - the game is too dark at all times and the flora is moving unrealistically like in a 6th gen game.

I bought into the hype about the quest variety but I don't see it at all, the quests are all the same, they just have different cutscenes.

Thats a shame.  It really starts to get good after 35 hours!  Don't you know the rule?

Single player story games require a full 10 min to judge, open world games require enough time to beat Uncharted at least twice.

Your loss...

You do you. I quit The Witcher 1 after around the same time because I couldn't keep up with the endless stream of long winded quests that weren't really interesting at all, accompanied by cookie cutter melee gameplay. I mean what is the very last thing I want to do in a fantasy RPG? Using melee. And especially switching swords every 5 seconds due to contrived reasons to make the combat slightly less shallow.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

So you simply don't like western RPGs very much then, because they don't really come much better than this (an argument can be made that the combat mechanics could be better). That's fine.
I think the quest structure is necessary or otherwise it would just be playing around in a sandbox with no real purpose, overarching goal or consequences. W3 manages to pull of great storytelling, though. Monster hunts are just monster hunts, that's the nature of them but the more meaty side quests are some of the best I have ever encountered. And the characters are great and likable.
Meh, I guess it's all a matter of taste.

Thread worthy/10

Good to know op! Keep us up to date on games you do or don't complete.

Why not check me out on youtube and help me on the way to 2k subs over at www.youtube.com/stormcloudlive

I'm in the camp that the Witcher 3 sucks. It has nothing on Horizon Zero Dawn, Breath of the Wild and Skyrim.

I too felt that the scenes between Gwent games were a bit too long and annoying. It always felt like one was more occupied with riding, fighting monsters and stuff, instead of actually playing Gwent.
