Literally true, I'm guessing all the episodes will be well over 100 gb.

Have they actually confirmed that it will be episodic, and if so, do we know yet if our save data carries over, and to what extent?

They dropped the term "episodic" almost immediately, yet it's stuck with people/media.

It's confirmed it's a "multi-game series". No information on what, if anything, carries over between games.

Multiple games or episodes is semantics. Same thing at the end of the day.

FFVII Remake will be more than a singular purchase.

I have a feeling, that I'm going to enjoy the remake more than the original. By a good margin. @vivster Anything's possible. But the answer is no. Moms are tough.

It's just a poor description when every "episodic" game has several 1-3 hour long episodes making up a single game. Walking Dead, Life is Strange, Sam & Max, Resdient Evil Revelations 2. This is what is thought of with the term episodic game. I view Episodic games as almost a genre, which FF7:R isn't part of.

Still semantics. It isn't a singular purchase to get the full story. Call it whatever, the point still stands.

It has been confirmed as multiple episodes, undisclosed in number and how it works. Last I read the first episode is only through Midgar.  I'm still not sure how Midgar will be 40 hours.

I'll try to stay optimistic that they will do it right. It's an RPG, and having it episodic could ruin character progression unless they allow it to transfer over.

As for a 40 hour Midgar, maybe the Don Corneo cross-dressing arc is what they are expanding on to fill the time. Fingers crossed (no pun intended).

I'm more optimistic about this since they told us about the time stop/decision making in combat. I just hope the gameplay at least feels like FF7 and the game does too. SquEnix seem so ashamed or embarrassed of the gameplay which made Final Fantasy such a big series and are constantly doing all they can to not make a FF game with FF gameplay, it's so weird. It does look superb though, shame we don't see Cait Sith and Cid until the second game.

Hmm, pie.

Multiple Games or Episodes are not the same thing. Just as multiple seasons are not the same thing as multiple episodes.

Many labels and genres are just "semantics" in the end. Not labelling it as "episodic" like those other games I listed is just logical because it avoids confusion as "episodic" is an already established way of releasing games that the Final Fantasy 7 remake doesn't adhere to.

FF7 Remake doesn't fit into the already established definition of an episodic game, so it makes sense to call it something else.

It will be a GOTY for sure .

FF7R + TLoU 2...... Sony already won 2020.

I am optimistic as well.  I do believe it has to have character carryover, or it will just be weird.  That will be curious how it is handled with the ps5 coming next year.

Edit

@Barkley:I am not arguing semantics all day.  FFVII was a singular game, the remake isn't.  Call it whatever you want.  It doesn't change how Square is handling the remake.
