Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Nintendo Switch Lite Officially Revealed - $199, September 20th, Dedicated Handheld

This appeals to me much more than the original Switch - and it's much cheaper as well, which is nice.

Is there a list of major games that do/don't support handheld mode? I want to get a feel for what % of the Switch library it'd give me access to.

The only games I know of that don't support handheld are Super Mario Party, 1-2-Switch and Labo.

1) I knew this was coming since the first Switch reveal.

2) Never believe Nintendo when they deny something so obvious. They are liars and bad ones at that.

3) THE SWITCH IS A HANDHELD!

4) I think the Switch Lite looks great and so is the price.

5) This is finally going to push me to buy an original Switch model though I hope there is a price cut.

Expect to see much more emphasis on games with a handheld focus feature set.. The whole "hybrid console" was nothing more than a marketing ploy for the get-go.

Yeah... no.

99.9% of Switch games work in handheld mode already, there's not going to be any change in games development.

"The whole "hybrid console" was nothing more than a marketing ploy for the get-go." - You can play the Switch on a TV, you can play 4 player splitscreen, it can be used as a home console.

It is a hybrid console, it is not a "marketing ploy"

By your logic the PSP Go was a hybrid console, the only difference being that the dock that allowed you to play on a tv with separate controllers was an optional accessory. And if that's a stopping point for you, you also can't play 4 player split screen without buying optional accessories on your Switch.

Just watch. By the time the last Switch is sold, most Nintendo Switches sold will not be able to be docked to a TV, and will not be able to be used as a home console in any way. That doesn't sound like a very "hybrid" console to me even if you're as generous with the idea of a "hybrid console" as you are.

In Japan where this will get most of its sales?
Yes.

But its already a handheld...

You can't see how a smaller, cheaper handheld would perform well in Japan??

But now it's 1/3 cheaper and entering that sweet 'impulse buy' price point.

In general, bad move by Nintendo. The Original switch was selling well because of its portability. Who needs a switch now when you have cheaper portable switch lite.

The original switch sales will start to tank as soon as the lite portable is released... mark my words :)

Not one with so many features gone. Maybe Im just so far from the demographic for this one, I don't know...

So you're predicting Switch units to be over 100 million then

"generous with the idea of a hybrid console". Please tell me what makes the Switch not a hybrid console, what would it need to have to be a hybrid console?

Were any games for the PSP Go designed with TV play in mind? Were many games on the PSP Go playable in splitscreen? Did any games on the PSP Go gain graphical enhancements when played on a TV? Did the PSP Go come bundled with wireless controllers that could be used on a TV? These are the reasons Switch is better described as a hybrid than PSP Go.

"Just watch. By the time the last Switch is sold, most Nintendo Switches sold will not be able to be docked to a TV" - Yeah sure lol.

"Nintendo Senior Vice President for Sales and Marketing Doug Bowser (yes, really) said the play time split between docked and undocked play on the Switch is "about even—about 50 percent in the dock and 50 percent away from the dock." The latter time chunk includes both tabletop play and fully handheld play".

Well there you have it folks, Nintendo Switch is more of a portable system than a home console/hybrid. Nintendo didn't say it but they clearly showed it lol :P

Personally I do not like this model at all (though the design is nice). This Lite is nothing of what makes the Switch so amazing as a console. They stripped everything and made it the most basic handheld ever (no rumble feature either?!). And why couldn't they at least add in the USB-C port that you can connect to your TV? I'm sure it'd cost them nothing and at least with that you can still 'Switch' if it can do that. They might as well call this the Nintendo Cant-Switch. Honestly though I would've named it Nintendo Switch Go or along that line. Switch Lite to me seems like it's the same Switch but smaller so i'd initially think it would be able to do the same as the original Switch.

Either way I'm glad I have my original model. I do parties all the time and people needing the Joy-cons are a must (ahem Mario Party/Kart). But this is great of those that have always enjoyed the handheld life.
