Most beautiful 2D game ever

Forums - Gaming Discussion - Most beautiful 2D game ever

Gotta be Ori and the Blind Forest. Such a beauty to look at. There are a few other hand-drawn artstyle 2D games that look very good as well, like Cuphead and Child of Light.

In terms of pure 2D fighting games, it has to go to King of Fighters Xiii.

Speaking of fighting games, Skullgirls looks amazing.

Id say Ori and the Blind Forest. Also the sequel looks set to push the bar even more.

Trine 2 on Wii U

Damn right; in purely artistic terms it's probably still the most beautiful game I've ever played, even though plenty of newer games that are also artistically lovely have long since eclipsed it technologically.

In just a few months, Trine 4 comes out; we'll see it if it can claim its ancestor's crown.

Fingers crossed - Trine 4 is a day 1 purchase for me....

I'm still trying to get the Trine 1-3 physical version for Switch which comes out at the end of this month in the US but it's proving difficult to pre order. Even though I have Trine 1&2 on Wii U I'd be happy to double dip for that physical Switch release.....

Yeah I'm grabbing Trine 4 day 1 also.

The difficulties you're having with the Trilogy pack are probably cos the team isn't quite finished porting Trine 3 yet; it's proving more difficult than the first two as it was made for 2015 PCs and PS4 while the first two were made for PS3/360 and PCs of 2010-2012. As of two days ago Frozenbyte tweeted that they don't have a solid release date yet as a result, but are "working hard to make it happen as soon as possible. Stay tuned".

I'm caught between Cuphead and Muramasa, myself.

Well, this is new.

Read.

Of the games I played:

Monkey Island

Heroes of Might and Magic 3

Rayman Legends

Beneath a steel sky

Micro machines

Muramasa

And a bit of cheating, because these are actually 3D-engines rendering, although it is 2D-gameplay (this means lighting effects):

Trine

Octopath traveler

3DS-FC: 4511-1768-7903 (Mii-Name: Mnementh), Nintendo-Network-ID: Mnementh, Switch: SW-7706-3819-9381 (Mnementh)

my greatest games: 2017, 2018, 2019

Predictions: Switch / Switch vs. XB1 in the US / Three Houses first quarter

The crown goes to Hyper Light Drifter. Its top-down style and the atmosphere and the art make it something else.

Runners up go to Axiom Verge for its retro look (and cool-as-hell box art), and Rayman Legends for its whimsy and animations.

I think GRIS was one of the most beautiful 2D games I played.
But I never played Ori so I may change my mind if it comes to switch and I can try it one day!
Rayman was quite good looking too but in a less poetic way than GRIS.

Now that MS and Ninty are buddies, here's hoping Ori follows in the footsteps of Cuphead and makes its way over to the Switch.
