Andrew O'Neil

MAY 27, 1972  JUNE 10, 2019
We are sad to announce Andy O’Neil passed on Monday, June 10, 2019 at his home in Austin, Texas. Andy had moved to Austin in 1999 from Birmingham, England to pursue a career in the video game industry. Andy was the first son of Isobel Noreys O’Neil and Peter O’Neil and was born on May 27, 1972, which made him 47 years young when he passed.
He moved to Austin to work for Acclaim and then went to Retro Studios, where he was lead programmer on Metroid Prime. Not long after, Andy decided to go it alone, founding Bluepoint Games in January 2006 along with Marco Thrush.

RIP

So young.

We need to keep in mind that in order to die we just need to be alive. It will happen to us all at any time.

My Total Sales prediction for PS4 by the end of 2021: 110m+

When PS4 will hit 100m consoles sold: Before Christmas 2019

There were three ravens sat on a tree / They were as blacke as they might be / The one of them said to his mate, Where shall we our breakfast take?

Another one who has died much too young.

I would thank him for co-founding the studio that remade one of the best games ever made if I believed you could communicate with the dead. He and his team did an amazing job on SotC, so if nothing else his memory will live on for me in that accomplishment.

That and he was also the lead programmer for MP, the best game that graced the GC. RIP. He was a true inspiration for the industry

Thanks for your contribution to gaming and to one of my favorite games of all time. And these young deaths are really adding up. I know it's none of our business, but it is natural to wonder what took someone's life so young. There is no mention of cause of death anywhere I can find, which makes me think it was a very sad death.

Jeez, another. What a shame. Did they say why he died of?

What? How?! And he wasn't even that old. :(

Some days I just blow up.

Hear, hear. I look forward to their other remakes, as well. They always do a great job.

There's nothing on the obituary page about the cause of death, besides the fact he died at home.
